DIGIMON UP! Is Coming to Smartphones in 2026—But Is It Like Pokémon GO?

Bandai Namco has announced DIGIMON UP!, a new Digimon smartphone game planned for 2026. The confirmed details include brand-new pixel art and familiar franchise elements such as the Digivice and Digimon Card Game. The announcement does not establish that the game copies Pokémon’s gameplay, uses location-based play, or requires a physical Digivice.

What is DIGIMON UP!?

DIGIMON UP! is the name Bandai Namco gave its newly announced smartphone game. The company’s March 22, 2026 announcement describes it as a mobile game coming to smartphones in 2026. It also says the game will feature brand-new pixel art and familiar Digimon elements, including Digivice toys and the Digimon Card Game.

Those details identify the game’s platform and visual direction, but not its full design. Bandai Namco has not described a gameplay loop in the announcement: it does not explain how players will raise, collect, battle with, or interact with Digimon. The company also cautions that the images show elements still under development and that details may change without prior notice.

Is DIGIMON UP! like Pokémon GO?

Not on the evidence announced so far. The Pokémon comparison works as a broad way to orient fans: both are major monster-collecting franchises with mobile games. But that is not enough to say DIGIMON UP! follows Pokémon GO’s gameplay or business approach.

Bandai Digimon Extra Booster: Digital World Shambala (EX12) Collectible Card Game Booster Pack
  • Features numerous Digimon from 'Digimon Pendulum COLOR'
  • Introduces new cards with the latest Dual Card feature
  • Builds upon previous booster sets
  • Incorporates new cards with the recently added Dual Card mechanic
  • Rarity distribution: Common 27, Uncommon 20, Rare 21, Super Rare 12, Secret Rare 2, SP Card 6

The Pokémon GO announcement in 2015 highlighted discovering Pokémon in the real world, with catching, trading, and battling tied to location information. Bandai Namco’s announcement for DIGIMON UP! does not mention location-based play or describe comparable mechanics. Until the company provides more detail, it is more accurate to call this a new Digimon smartphone game than a Pokémon GO-style game.

What does the announcement say about Digivices and cards?

Bandai Namco names Digivice toys and the Digimon Card Game as familiar franchise elements represented in DIGIMON UP!. That wording does not establish that players need a physical toy or card, that either product connects to the app, or that the game supports a particular device integration.

Fans looking for a Digimon virtual pet or Digivice should therefore treat the announced game and physical merchandise as separate unless Bandai Namco confirms a connection. The announcement establishes a franchise reference, not a hardware requirement or accessory feature.

When does DIGIMON UP! come out?

Bandai Namco announced a 2026 release window, but its pre-registration notice says the date displayed on an app-store registration page is used for device registration and is not the app’s official release date. It should not be treated as a confirmed launch day.

The May 1, 2026 notice also described a conditional campaign reward: if pre-registrations reached 100,000, players would receive Gekkomon as a Support Digimon when the game starts. That figure is the threshold for the reward, not a reported registration total or confirmation that the milestone was reached.

DIGIMON UP! is not Digimon Alysion

Digimon Alysion is a separate mobile Digimon card game. A May 7, 2026 report by ComicBook.com said its release was planned for 2026 and described a physical-card tie-in. Those details belong to Alysion, not DIGIMON UP!; they do not fill in the unannounced gameplay or device details for UP!.
