Available reporting says Love on the Spectrum participants are not paid for appearing. The creator and executive producer has said production pays for featured dates and transportation, but Netflix did not answer The Guardian’s 2025 questions about nonpayment. That makes this a reported production practice—not a payment policy Netflix has publicly confirmed.
What has been reported about cast pay?
Kaelynn Partlow, a participant in Season 1, told TV Insider that she was not paid to appear and that she had been told this beforehand: “They were very upfront about that being the case. It wasn’t a surprise.” TV Insider published its account on April 21, 2025. TV Insider
Cian O’Clery, the series’ creator and executive producer, has also said participants are not compensated for being on the show. In a Parade interview published April 11, 2024, he said: “People aren’t left out of pocket by being part of the experience, that’s all I can say.” He explained that production pays for dates and transportation. Who pays for dates and transportation?
According to O’Clery, production covers the dates featured on the show and transportation. His comments do not itemize every expense participants might have, so they should not be read as a guarantee that production covers all costs associated with taking part.

Is this a Netflix-confirmed payment policy?
No. The Guardian reported on May 17, 2025, that Netflix declined to answer its questions about cast nonpayment. The available account of the arrangement comes from a participant and the show’s creator and executive producer, rather than a direct confirmation from Netflix. The Guardian

Do the terms apply to every season?
The public accounts establish what Partlow said about her Season 1 experience and what O’Clery described as the production’s approach. They do not confirm whether compensation terms changed for Seasons 4 or 5. Netflix announced Season 5 in 2026, but the renewal announcement does not state how participants are compensated. Netflix
The Guardian also quoted a Northern Pictures spokesperson describing the show’s focus on respectful, authentic storytelling. That statement concerns the show’s approach, not payment terms. The Guardian
