Yes. Mega Greninja is an official Pokémon form introduced in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, not a fan-made design. The Pokémon Company has published a dedicated profile for it and announced Greninjite, its Mega Stone, as an in-game reward tied to online Ranked Battles.
What is Mega Greninja?
Mega Greninja is Greninja’s temporary Mega Evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The official Mega Greninja profile identifies it as a Water/Dark-type Ninja Pokémon, with a listed height of 4 feet 11 inches and weight of 88.2 pounds. Those measurements are fictional character-profile details, not real-world measurements.
The Pokémon Company says that Mega Evolution dramatically improves Mega Greninja’s reflexes. The profile describes it baiting opponents into attacking so it can react and strike first. It also carries a giant, rapidly spinning water shuriken, formed from a gel-like membrane secreted by its body. These are descriptions of the Pokémon’s fictional abilities and design.
Where does Mega Greninja appear?
Mega Greninja was announced as one of the new Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. The Pokémon Company’s September 12, 2025 announcement introduces the form and explains how its Mega Stone is awarded. The game’s official purchase page lists participating retailers.

How Mega Evolution works
