Donald Trump rejected the suggestion that he was an Arsenal fan, then mentioned having a friend who owned Manchester United. That remark points toward a connection with the club, but it does not confirm that Trump supports Manchester United.
What did Trump say about Arsenal?
During Piers Morgan’s ITV interview with Trump at the World Economic Forum, Morgan introduced Trump’s son Barron as an Arsenal supporter and asked, “Are you an Arsenal fan?” Trump replied, “Not particularly, no…” The transcript records the exchange on Jan. 28, 2018 (Roll Call / Factba.se transcript).
The exchange came amid a light-hearted pitch for Trump to manage Arsenal. The Standard reported that Morgan presented him with an Arsenal shirt and joked about the club’s search for a manager, before asking whether Trump was a fan (The Standard, Jan. 29, 2018).
Which Premier League team did Trump hint he supports?
After declining the Arsenal label, Trump said, “I have a friend who owns Manchester United,” according to The Standard’s account of the interview. The report identified the friend as a member of the Glazer family, which owned the club at the time. Trump’s wording linked him socially to Manchester United through that friend; it did not say that he was a United supporter.

Does the remark prove Trump is a Manchester United fan?
No. The reported comment is a hint readers may interpret as a Manchester United connection, not a clear declaration of allegiance. The transcript establishes that Trump rejected being described as particularly an Arsenal fan, while the contemporary report supplies the Manchester United remark. Neither establishes which club, if any, he personally supports.
A later 2025 headline framed the exchange as Trump hinting at a team he supports (The Football Group, Oct. 2, 2025). The cautious distinction remains important: mentioning a friend who owned a club is not the same as saying “I support” that club.
