At its October 17, 2024, New York Comic Con Next Big Thing panel, Marvel announced The Rise of Emperor Doom, a five-issue comic-book miniseries planned for February 2025. The story set up a larger comics event, One World Under Doom, in which Doctor Doom declares himself ruler of the world. This was a comics announcement, not news about a Marvel Studios film.
What Marvel announced at the panel
Marvel’s Next Big Thing panel at New York Comic Con introduced The Rise of Emperor Doom, a five-issue miniseries planned to begin in February 2025. The panel report named Ryan North as writer and R.B. Silva as artist. Gizmodo’s October 17, 2024 report covered the announcement.
The announcement’s launch title and the event’s core series are distinct: Marvel’s official issue listing presents One World Under Doom as the central series. Its first issue was published February 12, 2025.
What happens in One World Under Doom
Marvel’s official description establishes the premise: Doom became Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme six months before the story begins, then disappeared behind Latveria’s closed borders. He returns by taking over broadcast media around the world and declaring himself Emperor of the World and ruler of a new United Latveria. Earth’s leaders appear to accept his rule, while the planet’s heroes organize to oppose his plans.
