Don’t Move is a 2024 Netflix survival thriller about a grieving woman whose body begins to shut down after a stranger injects her with a paralytic agent. The film turns that physical countdown into the engine of a stripped-down chase: Iris must find ways to run, hide and resist as her ability to move dwindles.
What is Don’t Move about?
Kelsey Asbille plays Iris, a grieving woman who goes to an isolated forest seeking solace. There she encounters Richard, played by Finn Wittrock, who injects her with a drug that progressively immobilizes her. Iris has a narrowing window to escape and survive.
Netflix’s synopsis gives the drug a 20-minute onset and says it takes an hour to wear off within the story. Those timings are fictional plot mechanics, not medical information. The premise is best approached without knowing how Iris’s ordeal ends.
Is Don’t Move a horror movie or a thriller?
Netflix categorizes the film as a thriller, while its Tudum coverage calls it a horror thriller. Its central device is a survival countdown rather than a supernatural threat: the suspense comes from watching Iris try to act while losing control of her body. Netflix’s US listing also uses descriptors including “Ominous,” “Chilling,” “Serial Killer,” “Dark” and “Race Against Time.”

Cast and filmmakers
- Kelsey Asbille plays Iris.
- Finn Wittrock plays Richard.
- Moray Treadwell plays Bill.
- Daniel Francis is also named in the cast by Netflix Tudum.
- Brian Netto and Adam Schindler co-directed the film; T.J. Cimfel and David White wrote it.
- Sam Raimi produced it.
The filmmakers describe the thriller as unfolding in roughly real time. Tudum puts the story’s elapsed time at about 85 minutes; that is different from the film’s listed runtime of 1 hour 32 minutes.
What the paralysis means to Iris’s story
The film’s physical danger is also framed by its makers as a reflection of Iris’s emotional condition. Asbille described it as “a conversation with herself about the will to live.” Raimi likewise said that, through her interaction with Richard, Iris regains a desire to live she had lost. These are the cast and filmmakers’ interpretations of her character arc, not a requirement for how viewers must read the story.
