DINOSAUR is no longer operating at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom. Disney named February 1, 2026, as the ride’s final operating day and February 2 as the permanent closure date. Its former home, DinoLand U.S.A., is being transformed into Tropical Americas, a planned 11-acre land targeted to open in 2027. The new area is set to include an Indiana Jones attraction and an Encanto ride-through—not Indiana Jones alone.
When did DINOSAUR close?
Disney announced that DINOSAUR’s final operating day would be February 1, 2026, and that DinoLand U.S.A. would permanently close on February 2, 2026. Those dates have passed, so the ride is no longer an option for guests. Disney’s March 6, 2025 closure announcement set out the schedule.
What is replacing DinoLand U.S.A.?
Disney is retheming the area as Tropical Americas, an 11-acre land inspired by the region. The plan includes two attractions: an Indiana Jones adventure and an Encanto ride-through set in Casita. The Walt Disney Company’s August 10, 2024 announcement introduced both projects. Disney’s 2025 update described Tropical Americas as 11 acres.
When is Tropical Americas expected to open?
Disney says Tropical Americas is planned to open in 2027. The company’s Fiscal Year 2025 annual report also describes the land as planned for 2027. Disney has not specified an exact opening day in the cited announcements, and the target year should not be read as a guaranteed date. The sources also do not establish a separate opening sequence for the two attractions.

What has Disney announced about the Indiana Jones ride?
Name and story
The attraction is called Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. In Disney’s announced story, Dr. Jones explores an ancient Maya temple near a cenote—a water-filled underground cave. A local legend describes a passage to the Maya Underworld guarded by a serpentine creature called the Tsukán. Disney’s account says the adventure includes dangers such as bats, scorpions, fire, and snakes.
These are story details from Disney, not a confirmed description of the ride system or an operating guide. In its August 15, 2026 update, Disney said Harrison Ford is the model for the planned Indiana Jones Audio-Animatronics figure. Disney also said Imagineers are consulting archaeologists, anthropologists, and Maya experts on cultural details; that statement is Disney’s description of its process, not an independent assessment of it.
