Rob Reiner’s marriages and family
Reiner met photographer Michele Singer while directing When Harry Met Sally…. ABC News reports that they married in 1989 and had three children together; the Associated Press describes their marriage as lasting 36 years. Reiner was previously married to actor and director Penny Marshall for 10 years. PBS reports that he adopted Marshall’s daughter before their divorce in 1981.
Rob and Nick Reiner worked together on Being Charlie
In 2016, Rob and Nick collaborated on Being Charlie, a film drawing on elements of their experiences. In an interview published by the Associated Press in connection with the film, Rob said, “It forced us to understand ourselves better than we had.” He described the collaboration as worthwhile regardless of the film’s outcome, saying they had “worked through a lot of stuff.”

Nick said in a contemporaneous interview that he and his father had not bonded much before making the film and felt closer afterward. These comments document their experience of one project; they are not a complete account of the family’s private life.

In a statement reported by ABC News on December 17, 2025, Jake and Romy thanked people for their condolences and support and asked for privacy. They also urged that speculation be “tempered with compassion and humanity” and that their parents be remembered for their lives and the love they gave. That request makes it especially important to keep public accounts of the family grounded in verifiable information rather than speculation.
