What happens to Tanjiro in Chapter 201?
Chapter 201, titled Oni no Ō (鬼の王), commonly translated as “The King of Demons,” brings Tanjiro into the crisis he has spent the story fighting. As Muzan is defeated, he passes his will and power to Tanjiro. Tanjiro awakens as a demon and becomes a danger to those around him, leaving his friends to confront the threat while trying to reach him.

The twist reverses the emotional stakes of the battle: Tanjiro, whose struggle has centered on defeating demons and helping restore his sister, is briefly transformed into one. For the exact dialogue and panel-by-panel sequence, read the licensed chapter rather than relying on a summary. VIZ lists the English Chapter 201; the detailed plot account is summarized in this Chapter 201 reference.
Does Tanjiro stay a demon?
Chapter 201’s transformation is part of the ending’s immediate crisis, not proof that Tanjiro remains a demon permanently. The aftermath is addressed in later chapters: VIZ’s chapter sequence lists Chapter 202 next. Read on from there for the resolution rather than treating the Chapter 201 reveal as Tanjiro’s settled fate.

Where to read Chapter 201 and the ending
If you want only the immediate chapter, use the digital chapter listing. If you want the surrounding conclusion, Chapter 201 is collected in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Vol. 23, the manga’s final volume, by creator Koyoharu Gotouge. VIZ lists the English paperback and digital formats on its Volume 23 page. The paperback ISBN-13 is 978-1-9747-2363-8; VIZ lists its release date as August 3, 2021. Availability and prices may change.
The Japanese digital listing gives the chapter title as 鬼の王 and displays December 21, 2020. VIZ’s English sequence places Chapter 201 in April 2020; these are dates shown by different regional listings, not one universal release date. You can consult the Shonen Jump+ listing for the Japanese title and the VIZ listing for the English chapter sequence.
