Spoilers for the full Demon Slayer manga. Muzan Kibutsuji stands above the demon hierarchy, and the Twelve Kizuki are ranked beneath him, with Upper Ranks above Lower Ranks. But the series does not provide an official, exhaustive strongest-to-weakest chart for every demon. The tiering below separates established ranks from editorial comparisons, rather than treating fan power-scaling as canon.
Who is the strongest demon in Demon Slayer?
Muzan Kibutsuji is the strongest demon in the series’ hierarchy. Shueisha describes him as the first demon and the only demon able to turn humans into demons. He is not a member of the Twelve Kizuki; he is their master. The publisher’s description also characterizes demons generally as possessing high physical abilities and rapid healing, and says they are usually defeated by sunlight or decapitation with a special sword. Individual abilities and the way a fight unfolds can vary.
Below Muzan, the Twelve Kizuki are the clearest ranking system. They serve him directly and are divided into Upper and Lower Ranks. The ordinal rank is useful evidence of status within that group, but it does not automatically rank every demon outside it or settle every possible matchup.
How strong are the Upper Moons?
The Upper Ranks are the highest tier of the Twelve Kizuki beneath Muzan. The official anime announcement names Kokushibo, Doma, Akaza, Hantengu, and Gyokko as Upper Rank demons. That announcement confirms the roster, not a complete comparison of their abilities or a definitive ranking among them.

Akaza is explicitly identified as Upper Rank Three. His official game profile describes him as pursuing strength, enjoying fights with powerful opponents, and disliking the weak. Those details help characterize him, but neither the profile nor the rank label is a universal measure of how he would fare against every opponent.
Within the Upper Ranks, an editorial comparison would need to weigh demonstrated combat performance, abilities, durability, regeneration, tactical flexibility, and the circumstances of each fight. These factors are not a canonical formula: a technique that is especially effective against one opponent does not prove its user is stronger in every situation. Without a full, chapter-verified comparison of manga feats, assigning exact placements among all five would overstate what the official ranking references establish.
Where do the Lower Moons rank?
The Lower Ranks sit beneath the Upper Ranks in the Twelve Kizuki’s hierarchy. Enmu is officially identified as Lower Rank One, and Rui as former Lower Rank Five. Those positions establish their relative standing within the Lower group, not a complete comparison between them and every demon elsewhere in the story.
Rank #2
- Ultimate Legends Demon Slayer: Kyojuro Rengoku figure has 27 points of articulation allowing infinite posing and display options

Enmu: Lower Rank One
Enmu ranks above Rui within the Lower Ranks. The official Mugen Train page also notes that he was the only Lower Rank to survive Muzan’s purge of that group. Survival of the purge is a story fact, not an independent measurement of combat strength.

Rui held the position of Lower Rank Five. His official game profile associates him with sharp, hard threads and coercive control over the demons he calls his family. His rank makes him a useful Lower Rank reference point, but does not make him a definitive weakest demon overall.
Who is the weakest demon?
There is no established, universal “weakest demon” in the available official ranking material. The answer depends on the comparison set: the Twelve Kizuki, named characters, or every demon in the story. The Lower Ranks are below the Upper Ranks, but that hierarchy does not provide an exhaustive ordering of demons outside the Kizuki or prove which individual is weakest across the entire series.
Rank #3
- Ultimate Legends HD – Giyu Tomioka delivers an affordable quality figure created to look exactly like your favorite character from the popular anime series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba
- Each character in the Ultimate Legend series is approximately 5 inches tall with 27 points of articulation. Collectible packaging with beautiful art reveal on the inside of the cover
- Ultimate Legends HD series features extra accessories and a collectible package. Accessories include Nichirin Sword, sheath, and extra set of hands
- Recreate iconic scenes from the anime. Look for more characters from the Ultimate Legends series and grow your collection!
- Ages 4+
Rui’s former Lower Rank Five position makes him a lower-ranked Kizuki example, while Enmu’s Lower Rank One position places him above Rui within that group. Neither fact supports calling Rui the weakest demon in all of Demon Slayer. A precise answer would require a defined set of characters and a comparison of their demonstrated capabilities, not rank labels alone.

Where to read the complete, spoiler-inclusive story
The anime may not cover every manga-era demon appearance. Shueisha lists the physical Demon Slayer manga series as volumes 1–23. Reading the complete series is the way to follow the full story and its later developments; the official volume listing does not itself supply a canon strongest-to-weakest chart.
