Deborra-Lee Furness’s May 2025 statement spoke about betrayal, pain, personal growth and gratitude, but it did not explain what she meant by “betrayal” or identify a cause for the end of her marriage to Hugh Jackman. She filed for divorce in New York on May 23, 2025, nearly two years after the couple announced their separation.
What did Deborra-Lee Furness say?
In a statement reported by ABC News on May 28, 2025, Furness expressed sympathy for people who had experienced betrayal and described it as deeply painful.

When did she file for divorce?
Contemporaneous reports say Furness filed for divorce in New York on May 23, 2025. The Los Angeles Times reported that the paperwork had been processed and was awaiting a judge’s signature when its account was published. That was a report of the filing’s status at that time, not a current update on the case.

The filing followed the couple’s September 2023 announcement that they were separating. According to the Associated Press, they had been married for 27 years when they made that announcement. They said they had decided to separate to pursue individual growth and that their family remained their highest priority.

Furness used the word “betrayal,” but the reported statement did not define it or say what specific event she was referring to. The cited reports do not establish a particular cause for the divorce. The word alone is not evidence of infidelity or of any other specific allegation, and it should not be treated as a disclosure of one.
