That description makes the episode an aftermath story: the immediate danger has passed, but its effects remain in both the characters’ relationship and Okarun’s unusual predicament. The disclosure is a hook, so it is best to approach the episode without expecting the synopsis to explain everything in advance.
Why does the episode suggest love is in the air?
The romance is in the change between Momo and Okarun, not in a declaration or a tidy resolution. Going through a frightening experience together has brought them closer; returning to ordinary school life makes that new closeness harder to navigate. Familiar settings can feel different when two people are newly aware of one another, and the episode’s awkwardness gives that shift room to register.

#1 Best Overall
Calling this a love story is an interpretation of the official synopsis, not a claim that the pair have become a couple. The appeal is tentative: they have shared something intense, and now even ordinary interaction carries a little more weight.
How does the comedy fit the romantic mood?
The episode does not set aside DAN DA DAN’s crude, supernatural-comedy identity for a conventional romance interlude. GKIDS’ episode guide notes that Okarun’s “thingie” still has not returned after the Turbo Granny events. That unresolved bodily gag sits beside the more earnest awkwardness between the two leads.

The contrast is the point. The absurd predicament keeps the story irreverent, while the characters’ changed dynamic gives the aftermath emotional texture. Neither tone cancels the other: affection can be sincere even when the surrounding situation is ridiculous.
Where can you watch Episode 5?
Crunchyroll has an official DAN DA DAN episode listing. The page’s language options and availability can vary by territory; check the listing in your region for current access. What is the series behind the episode?
DAN DA DAN is an anime adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s Shonen Jump+ manga. Crunchyroll’s March 10, 2024 announcement identified Science SARU as the animation studio and named Fuga Yamashiro as director, Hiroshi Seko as scriptwriter, and kensuke ushio as composer. That announcement also noted six English-language physical volumes at the time; it is a dated catalog snapshot, not a current inventory count or a guide to which manga chapters Episode 5 adapts.
Readers interested in the source material can find the Crunchyroll series announcement; it provides the adaptation context without establishing a specific manga-volume match for this episode.
