The February 28, 2025 tribute to Dickey Betts at Macon City Auditorium brought Allman Brothers Band classics and Betts solo-era songs together in two sets, with a rotating cast of collaborators and a full-company “Ramblin’ Man” encore. Curated and hosted by Betts’ son Duane, the sold-out event balanced familiar vocal numbers with instrumental showcases; the reported setlist and guest turns make its shape clear, even though they cannot convey the sound of being in the room.
What was the Dickey Betts tribute concert?
“In Memory Of Dickey Betts” took place at Macon City Auditorium in Macon, Georgia, on February 28, 2025. Duane Betts curated and hosted the memorial concert. The advance announcement said a portion of proceeds would benefit music education in Dickey Betts’ honor. JamBase later reported that the concert sold out, but did not publish an attendance figure. The event announcement and JamBase’s March 3 recap provide the event details.
Duane Betts described his father’s legacy in the January 8, 2025 announcement: “For so many of us, Dad’s gift to the world was music,” adding that he was “so happy to come together with some very special friends to honor the depth and beauty of his life and, of course, to share that sweet, melodic sound he is so well known for.”
How the setlist moves between band classics and Betts material
The program draws heavily on the Allman Brothers Band songbook while including material from Dickey Betts’ later career. Rather than treating the evening as a chronological biography, the two-set sequence shifts among blues, melodic instrumentals and songs built around guest vocalists.

Who played and sang?
The advance lineup named Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, Oteil Burbridge, Jaimoe, Chuck Leavell, Devon Allman, Duane Betts, Charlie Starr, Jimmy Hall and Lamar Williams Jr., among others. JamBase described the core band as led by Duane Betts, with Oteil Burbridge, guitarist Johnny Stachela, keyboardists Mike Kach and John Ginty, drummer Tyler Greenwell, and percussionists Frankie Lombardi and Mark Greenberg.
The set’s guest turns were not simply a roll call: they shaped its pacing. The first set moved between Hall’s early vocal leads, Starr and Devon Allman’s featured songs, and the instrumental lift of “Jessica.” The second set brought Trucks and Tedeschi into the opening stretch, then Haynes into a run of signature songs before Tedeschi returned and the ensemble closed together. The documented sequence supports that reading of the program; it is not a substitute for a firsthand account of the performances.

What happened beyond the music?
During the set break, JamBase reported, Dickey Betts’ longtime manager David Spero and Berklee School of Music’s Davis Wimberly spoke about establishing a scholarship in Betts’ name. JamBase also reported that Macon mayor Lester Miller proclaimed February 28, 2025 “Dickey Betts Day” in the area. Those details come from the retrospective account; the event announcement itself described a portion of proceeds as supporting music education.
