Yes, but the best-documented tension appears to have been brief. After Jim Parsons’ decision not to continue beyond season 12 became known, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki reportedly felt blindsided by how the news was handled. A producer recalled an icy first run-through afterward, but the same account says the mood had eased by the next one. That supports a moment of hurt and awkwardness—not an established, lasting cast feud.
The season-ending decision caused a brief strain
In a 2022 TVLine account drawing on Jessica Radloff’s oral history of the series, Parsons said he was ready for a change before season 12. Galecki described the shock not simply as Parsons wanting to leave, but as the cast not having had a conversation beforehand to prepare for the news. Producer Steve Molaro recalled that at the first run-through afterward, the principal trio did not talk between scenes.
That recollection points to hurt feelings about the announcement’s timing and handling. It does not establish that Parsons set out to cause a feud, or that the cast’s relationships remained damaged. TVLine’s account of the recollections says that by the following run-through Cuoco and Parsons were talking and laughing between scenes. The reported thaw is an important part of the story: the tension appears to have eased quickly.
Awkward scenes were about the characters, not the cast
Some on-set comments that can sound tense are about acting rather than personal relationships. In a 2015 Entertainment Tonight interview, Parsons and Mayim Bialik discussed how difficult it was to perform Sheldon and Amy’s fictional breakup. Parsons explained the contrast with their usual scenes: “We’re used to awkwardly interacting with love in our hearts. Now it’s awkwardly interacting with a rift between us.” He was describing the characters’ relationship and the challenge of playing the scene, not reporting a real-life dispute. Entertainment Tonight’s interview provides that context.

Cuoco and Galecki had personal history, but the anecdotes do not show a feud
Cuoco and Galecki’s real-life relationship overlapped with their work on the show. In an interview for Radloff’s oral history, Cuoco recalled a minor argument after Galecki ate tuna while they were rehearsing. She also described him as “he was just constantly a steadfast person in my life, on that show, on that set.” The story is evidence of an ordinary disagreement and a supportive working relationship, not serious or persistent conflict. Vanity Fair’s interview with Cuoco and Galecki includes her recollection.
Contract negotiations are not proof of cast conflict
Production was postponed in 2014 amid contract negotiations involving Parsons, Galecki and Cuoco, as TIME reported. That was a production and business issue. The reporting does not establish that the actors were feuding with one another, so it should not be used as evidence of interpersonal tension. TIME’s report covers the negotiations and delay.

What public comments can—and cannot—tell us
Earlier interviews offer context about the ensemble but cannot prove that every private interaction was harmonious. In a 2013 Backstage interview, Galecki said, “I don’t think it’s necessary that we all get along; it just happened.” He was speaking generally about ensemble chemistry, not confessing to a feud. Bialik described professional camaraderie after she and Melissa Rauch joined the cast, and Cuoco later characterized the group as close. Taken together, these accounts suggest a cast capable of working well together, while leaving the full details of private relationships unknowable. Backstage’s cast interview and TV Guide’s cast account provide that broader context.

How to read the claims of tension
- Timing: The clearest account is a retrospective recollection of the period after Parsons’ decision became known; it describes an awkward first run-through and a better one afterward.
- Subject: Comments about Sheldon and Amy’s breakup concern fictional characters, not the actors’ personal relationship.
- Attribution: The ending account is attributed to named cast and production participants, whereas online speculation alone is not corroboration.
- Duration: The available account describes a brief chill, not a sustained rift.
