The first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine made a huge splash: The Walt Disney Company reported 365 million views in its first 24 hours in 2024. That makes the trailer a striking marketing event, not proof on its own that the Marvel Cinematic Universe was saved. The more useful question is what the film’s high-profile pairing promised—and what evidence would show whether that promise mattered to the wider franchise.
What the trailer announced
Disney announced a new trailer and two posters on April 22, 2024, for the film officially titled Deadpool & Wolverine. “Deadpool 3” remains familiar fan shorthand, but it is not the release title. The film brings Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool together with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, with Shawn Levy directing. Disney’s announcement also listed Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen among the cast, and named Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells and Levy as writers. The Walt Disney Company’s announcement and Marvel’s official film page document the film and its team.
The trailer’s central hook was legible immediately: put two characters with distinct screen identities in the same story. Deadpool brings irreverence and self-aware humor; Wolverine brings the weight of a long-running, emotionally charged superhero role. That combination gave the marketing a recognizable pairing to sell without requiring audiences to follow every recent MCU storyline.
What the view count does—and does not—show
The Walt Disney Company reported 365 million views in 24 hours for the first trailer, calling it the most-viewed movie trailer of all time at that point. Disney’s Spanish-language press release reported the same company figure and period. These are studio-reported views, not an independent audience audit; a view count also does not establish how many unique people watched, whether they liked the trailer, or whether they went on to see the film. Disney’s announcement is the source for the claim.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The number does substantiate something narrower but meaningful: the trailer drew exceptional attention. Attention can create an opening for a franchise moment, but it is only an early signal. To assess whether the film helped the MCU more broadly, a reader would need additional evidence—such as the film’s reception and performance, and whether audiences’ responses translated into renewed confidence in the larger franchise. The trailer view figure alone cannot settle that question.
Why “saving the MCU” is a bigger claim
“Save the Marvel Cinematic Universe” is a compelling headline thesis, but it treats franchise health as if one trailer could prove a turnaround. A trailer can make a film feel like an event, revive interest in familiar characters, or reassure viewers that a new installment has a clear identity. None of those outcomes automatically establishes a lasting change across a franchise.

Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president and producer, put the strongest defensible version of the argument this way: “Nothing strengthens the Marvel Cinematic Universe or perhaps any cinematic universe like a great movie.” The statement makes the distinction clear: a movie’s eventual quality and impact matter more than the size of its promotional launch. Disney’s announcement attributes the quote to Feige.
So the trailer could signal an opportunity, not deliver a verdict. It showed that audiences were intensely curious about Deadpool and Wolverine together. Whether that curiosity strengthened the MCU depends on the film and on a broader pattern of audience response—not on a single promotional metric.
