Celeste Rivas Hernandez, 14, was found dead on Sept. 8, 2025, in the front trunk of a Tesla registered to singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke. A Los Angeles County judge ordered Burke to stand trial on July 27, 2026; that decision is not a conviction. The latest located court-status report, published Aug. 31, 2026, said Burke had pleaded not guilty and that no trial date had been set.
Who was the girl found in the Tesla?
She was Celeste Rivas Hernandez, a 14-year-old girl. Her remains were discovered one day after what would have been her 15th birthday.
Where and when were her remains found?
On Sept. 8, 2025, authorities found Rivas Hernandez’s remains in the front trunk of a 2023 Tesla Model Y registered to Burke. The car had been impounded after an abandoned-vehicle report. The location was the vehicle’s front trunk, not its conventional rear cargo area.
What did the medical examiner determine?
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner classified Rivas Hernandez’s death as a homicide and attributed it to “multiple penetrating injuries caused by object(s).” CBS Los Angeles reported that the autopsy described two penetrating wounds to the torso. A medical examiner’s determination establishes the cause and manner of death; it does not by itself establish who caused it.

What does the order to stand trial mean?
A preliminary hearing is an early stage of a criminal case. The judge’s decision to send the charges forward means the case can proceed toward trial; it is not a verdict on guilt. The prosecution’s description of evidence and its claims about Burke remain allegations unless established in court.
What is the current case status?
The latest located procedural account is the Associated Press report of Aug. 31, 2026. It says Burke pleaded not guilty, received a public defender after his private lawyers withdrew, and was due back for an October status conference. That report did not give a trial date. The outcome of the October conference is not established here, so a later court update would be needed to state whether the schedule or representation has changed.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office says: “The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”
