Rob Reiner was recorded as found at 3:45 p.m. on December 14, 2025, and Michele Singer Reiner at 3:46 p.m. The death certificates list the date and time of death as unknown, so those discovery times do not establish when either person died or who died first.
What the certificates say about when they were found
Copies of the Los Angeles County death certificates, published by TMZ, record Rob Reiner as found at 3:45 p.m. and Michele Singer Reiner at 3:46 p.m. The Guardian independently transcribed the entries. Both certificates give December 14, 2025, as the date of death.
The distinction matters: the clock times are recorded as times found, not times of death. The certificates list the date and time of death as unknown. The one-minute difference therefore cannot establish who died first, when the attack began, or the exact time either person died.
What the records report about the injuries
The certificates list the cause of death as multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death as homicide. The injury mechanism is described as “with knife, by another.” The interval between injury onset and death is recorded as “minutes,” without a more precise duration. The entry does not provide a count of minutes or a more exact sequence of events.

What is known about the criminal case
In an August 12, 2026 update, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said a grand jury indictment had been unsealed charging Nick Reiner with two counts of murder and special-circumstance allegations, including multiple murders and murder by means of lying in wait. The office said he pleaded not guilty that day. These are allegations, not findings of guilt. District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman stated: “The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.”

How to read the records
- The death-certificate copies were published by TMZ; they are not hosted on a county source page. The Guardian separately reported the entries, providing an additional transcription.
- “Found” times describe discovery, while the certificates’ death-time entries are unknown. Treating the two as interchangeable would claim more than the records establish.
- The certificate’s “minutes” entry gives only a broad injury-to-death interval, not an exact survival time.
