David Hekili Kenui Bell, a Hawaiʻi actor who appeared in Disney’s 2025 live-action Lilo & Stitch, died on June 12, 2025. He was 46, according to Hawaii News Now. Bell played Big Hawaiian Dude, a bystander who drops his shave ice when an alien portal appears.
Who was David Hekili Kenui Bell?
Bell, also known professionally as David H.K. Bell, was an actor and airport employee in Hawaiʻi. Hawaii News Now and Variety reported that he appeared in Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum P.I., and worked as an assistant airport superintendent at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport at Keahole. His sister told Variety that people could hear him over the Kona airport’s public-address system.
What was Bell’s role in the live-action Lilo & Stitch?
Bell played Big Hawaiian Dude in the 2025 remake. It was a small comic appearance: his character drops his shave ice after an alien portal appears. The role was part of a wider career that included television appearances and voiceover work, which his sister Jalene Kanani Bell also recalled in her tribute.
When did Bell die, and when was his death announced?
The Hawaiʻi Police Department confirmed to ABC News that Bell died on June 12, 2025. His sister announced his death in a Facebook post on June 15; news outlets reported on his death and career in the following days. Those dates refer to different events: the date of death and the later public announcement.

What was David Hekili Kenui Bell’s cause of death?
Later reporting did not establish an exact cause or manner of death. In June 2025, ABC News reported that police had launched an inquest, were scheduling an autopsy, and did not suspect foul play at that time. On August 19, E! reported that an autopsy listed acute respiratory failure, sepsis, hypertensive/atherosclerotic heart disease, and morbid obesity among four pathological diagnoses. E! also reported that the autopsy did not state an exact cause or manner of death and that police considered the investigation complete. The diagnoses reported are not, on their own, a determination of what caused his death.
