Alexandria “Lexi” Zahra Jones, David Bowie and Iman’s daughter, said in an Instagram video that she was sent to treatment as a teenager against her wishes and learned of her father’s death while away at a residential center. She had spoken with Bowie two days before he died, she said. The details below are Jones’s personal account as reported by EL PAÍS and The Standard; they are not an independent assessment of her treatment or the facilities.
What did Lexi Jones say about being sent to treatment?
In a video shared on Instagram, Jones described a period of serious distress during adolescence and said adults arranged for her to leave home for treatment. She said she did not agree to go. EL PAÍS reproduced her words: “I didn’t choose to be there.”
Jones said she began therapy at about 10, after adults noticed something was wrong. She described self-harming at 11, developing bulimia at 12, and turning to alcohol and drugs when Bowie was diagnosed with cancer, when she was nearly 14. These are her recollections of her experience, not a clinical diagnosis or independently verified medical history.
What did she describe about the two treatment settings?
Jones’s account distinguishes an initial wilderness therapy program from a later residential center in Utah. The reports do not identify either facility by name.
