The screen-matched Darth Vader lightsaber offered by Propstore is no longer available: it sold at auction in Los Angeles on September 4, 2025. Guinness World Records reports the sale at $3.6 million. That figure is rounded, not a precise published final total. The unique film prop was a hilt without a blade—not a complete working lightsaber.
What sold—and what it sold for
Propstore’s September 2025 auction offered Vader’s screen-matched hero dueling lightsaber, used in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). The lot page now marks it sold. Propstore estimated it at $1 million to $3 million; Guinness World Records records the September 4 sale at $3.6 million. An estimate is not a sale result, and Guinness’s figure is rounded, so it should not be treated as a precise realized total.

Why the prop is considered screen-matched
Propstore identified the hilt as Vader’s primary dueling weapon in both films. Its listing describes two specific visual matches: the distinctive curvature of the D-ring in an Empire production still and a dent on the lower endcap visible in a Jedi close-up. Those details distinguish a screen match from a general resemblance to a saber seen on screen.

Propstore noted similarities in wear to a lightsaber associated with A New Hope, but said the evidence was not sufficient to establish that this particular hilt was used in that film. The supported attribution is to The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.
It was a hilt, not a complete lightsaber
The auctioned piece was a bladed dueling-saber prop built around a modified M.P.P. camera flash unit. Propstore describes solid-aluminum upper and lower cylinders, a steel rod anchoring the blade, and wooden prop blades attached with an aluminum collar. No blade was included in the sale; the listing says original prop blades are not known to exist in private collections.

The hilt measured 12.5 by 2.5 by 2 inches (32 by 6.5 by 5.5 cm). Its listed condition included a cut-away section of the upper shroud, a visible crack at the back, one partly broken and missing grip, scratches, and general wear. It came with a Propstore Certificate of Authenticity. These are details of this specific auction lot, not guarantees about other props or sales. Buyers in that auction were also responsible for shipping and applicable import duties, taxes, VAT, customs, and other charges.
Is it still the most expensive screen-used Star Wars prop?
No. Guinness records the Vader saber’s 2025 sale at $3.6 million, but Heritage Auctions reported that Mark Hamill’s screen-used Luke Skywalker lightsaber sold for $3.75 million on July 15, 2026, setting a new auction record for a screen-used Star Wars prop. These are reported auction figures from separate sales; they do not establish a broader trend in memorabilia prices.

You cannot buy this particular screen-matched prop from the Propstore lot: it has sold. A retail Vader lightsaber replica or toy is a different kind of product.
