Selma Blair announced that her Monday, October 17, 2022, performance would be her final dance on Dancing with the Stars. She said her doctor was concerned about the physical strain on her body. Blair and partner Sasha Farber then performed a waltz that earned four 10s—but the 40/40 was a farewell score, not part of the competition leaderboard.
Why Selma Blair was leaving the competition
Blair told the ballroom that she had to leave the show because of concern about the physical toll of continuing. As TheWrap reported, she said, “I am going to be OK, but I don’t want there to be something serious.” TheWrap also noted that Blair had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018. Her announcement concerned her decision to leave the competition; it should not be read as a report on her health today.

The announcement moved the cast, judges and fellow contestants. At the close of the dance, other dancers lifted Blair, cane and all, while the audience cheered. TheWrap’s October 17 recap described the ballroom as an “emotion-filled” setting where “Tears flowed … more than once.”
Blair and Farber’s farewell waltz earned a perfect score
Blair and professional partner Sasha Farber danced a waltz and received 40 out of 40 from the judges. TheWrap reported that the score did not count toward the night’s competition because Blair was leaving. It was a perfect send-off from the judges, not a score that changed the leaderboard.

Charli D’Amelio led the competition scores
Among couples still competing, Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas posted the night’s highest reported score: 39 out of 40 for a contemporary dance built around D’Amelio’s experience with anxiety. Carrie Ann Inaba called their dance “perfection,” according to TheWrap.
| Couple | Dance or performance detail | Score |
|---|---|---|
| Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas | Contemporary dance about D’Amelio’s struggle with anxiety | 39/40 |
| Wayne Brady and Witney Carson | Foxtrot | 37/40 |
| Selma Blair and Sasha Farber | Farewell waltz; score excluded from the competition | 40/40 |
Daniel Durant and Britt Stewart performed to “Both Sides Now,” with an ASL interpreter joining the dance. TheWrap’s recap did not provide a score for their performance.
