Countdown, Derek Haas’s 2025 Prime Video crime-action series starring Jensen Ackles, will not return for Season 2. During Season 1, Haas said he had not planned beyond launching the show; that was an expression of uncertainty, not a renewal prediction. Prime Video later declined to pick up another season, and Ackles confirmed the show was over.
Is Countdown renewed or canceled?
Countdown is canceled: Prime Video did not pick up the series for another season. TVLine reported the decision and Jensen Ackles’s public confirmation; Rotten Tomatoes’ 2026 status roundup also lists the series as canceled. The later reporting settles the question, superseding the uncertainty voiced while Season 1 was airing.
The sources reporting the outcome do not establish Prime Video’s reasons. There is no substantiated basis here to attribute the cancellation to critic ratings, audience figures, or another specific business factor.
What did creator Derek Haas say about Season 2?
In an interview published by TV Insider on July 29, 2025, during the first season’s run, Haas was asked about the show’s future. His comments conveyed caution rather than a forecast that renewal was likely: he had focused on getting the first season launched.

Two days later, CinemaBlend asked whether Haas would write all the scripts himself again if the show were renewed. He answered: “Oh, that’s a great question. Honestly, I haven’t thought past getting this first one launched. I really enjoyed doing it, but I also loved working with writing teams, which I’d done many times in the past. So that’s a great question for the future. Ask me again in a year.”
That quote addressed how Haas might approach writing a hypothetical second season—not the odds of renewal. His interviews took place before the later non-renewal was reported.

The available reporting does not connect critic ratings to Prime Video’s decision. Rotten Tomatoes maintains changing review scores and counts, so an exact figure would need to be checked and dated at publication; a critic-approval percentage is not a platform renewal metric. The evidence cited for the cancellation does not provide a named audience statistic or explain the platform’s rationale.
