Why Rebecca Gibney decided to compete
Gibney told The Sunday Times, in comments quoted by PerthNow on 9 February 2025, that she had been asked to take part before but had either been working on a drama or felt too scared to accept. Having recently turned 60, she said, she decided to “throw caution to the wind.”

She also described dancing as something she already enjoyed at home, joking that she normally danced in the bedroom or kitchen with dumbbells. The competition, she said, was “a whole new ballgame.”
Training with Ian Waite
Gibney was paired with professional dancer Ian Waite and had completed a month of ballroom and Latin training when PerthNow published its report. Waite had won the previous season with actor Lisa McCune.

The Australian 2025 cast and broadcast details
Gibney was one of 12 celebrities in the 2025 line-up. The other contestants were Brittany Hockley, Felicity Ward, Harry Garside, Karina Carvalho, Kyle Shilling, Mia Fevola, Michael Usher, Osher Günsberg, Shaun Micallef, Susie O’Neill and Trent Cotchin.
The cast announcement, dated 9 February 2025, named Sonia Kruger and Dr Chris Brown as hosts. The judges were Craig Revel Horwood, Sharna Burgess, Helen Richey and Mark Wilson. It listed Channel 7 and 7plus as viewing destinations for that season; this historical announcement does not establish present-day availability.

The program was produced by BBC Studios Australia and New Zealand, based on a format created by the BBC and distributed by BBC Studios.
Gibney’s television career
Gibney is a Gold Logie-winning actor known for Australian television dramas including The Flying Doctors, Halifax f.p. and Stingers. PerthNow also noted her more recent appearances in Stan’s Prosper and A Remarkable Place To Die, and that she became the fourth woman inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame in 2024.

Kyle Shilling won the season finale after a live viewer vote. In a season wrap dated 5 August 2025, Seven West Media reported these audience figures:
