The Department of Homeland Security posted a video featuring Zach Bryan’s song “Revival” on October 7, 2025, captioning it, “We’re having an All Night Revival.” The post followed criticism of Bryan’s “Bad News” teaser, which included an ICE-related lyric. The sequence prompted questions about whether DHS was mocking Bryan or making a pointed response—but the video establishes what the agency posted, not its internal intent.
What DHS posted
On October 7, 2025, the official DHS account shared a video set to “Revival,” a song by country musician Zach Bryan. Mediaite described the clip as 33 seconds long and reported that it showed ICE agents taking people into custody. The Daily Beast described footage of agents in camouflage and gas masks confronting protesters and rounding people up.

DHS captioned the post: “We’re having an All Night Revival.” Given the timing and the song’s connection to Bryan, coverage framed the post as a jab at the singer. That interpretation is plausible, but the caption and footage alone do not confirm the agency’s intended tone.
Why the post drew attention
The video came after backlash to a teaser for Bryan’s unreleased song “Bad News.” The teaser included the lyric “ICE is gonna come bust down your door.” The Washington Post described the teaser as appearing to criticize ICE; Axios reported that it drew conservative backlash. Bryan later said the full song would provide more context, so the teaser should not be treated as a complete account of his stated intent.

What Bryan and DHS officials said
Zach Bryan’s explanation
As reported by Axios, Bryan said: “This song is about how much I love this country and everyone in it more than anything.” He also wrote: “Everyone using this now as a weapon is only proving how devastatingly divided we all are. We need to find our way back.”
Kristi Noem’s criticism
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem criticized “Bad News.” Mediaite reported her saying she was “extremely disappointed and disheartened,” and calling the song “completely disrespectful” to law enforcement and the country. She argued that it attacked people “who were just trying to make our streets safe.”

Tricia McLaughlin’s reply
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told reporters, “Stick to Pink Skies, dude,” referring to another Bryan song. Her comment was about Bryan’s music; it was separate from the department’s later post featuring “Revival.”

The available reporting does not establish whether DHS obtained permission to use the song. A copyright analysis published by Billboard and republished by Radio 88.8 discussed possible synchronization licensing, fair use, and the federal government’s potential sovereign-immunity defense, as well as a possible route for rights holders to seek compensation. Those were legal possibilities, not findings about this particular video.

The analysis also noted uncertainty about rights to Bryan’s catalog and whether he holds an ownership stake. The public reporting cited here does not establish that Bryan authorized or objected to this specific use, that the use infringed copyright, or that a lawsuit or takedown followed. No legal conclusion can be drawn from the video’s appearance alone.
