Céline Dion made a surprise appearance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on February 4, 2024, to present Album of the Year. She handed the award to Taylor Swift, whose album Midnights won. The appearance was widely described as rare, but the exact “first public appearance in three months” timing is not confirmed by the reporting reviewed here.
What happened at the 2024 Grammys
Dion presented the ceremony’s Album of the Year award to Taylor Swift for Midnights. It was Swift’s fourth win in the category. CBS News reported that Dion’s son René-Charles accompanied her to the microphone; that detail does not establish anything about her health or mobility. CBS News’ February 5, 2024, report and the Associated Press’ February 4, 2024, coverage confirm the presentation.
What Dion said onstage
“When I say I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart,” Dion said, according to The Independent’s February 5, 2024, report. The report says the audience gave her a standing ovation as “The Power of Love” played while she entered. Dion also said, “Thank you all, I love you right back.”
The Independent reported that Dion recalled Diana Ross and Sting presenting her with the same award 27 years earlier. These are details of the reported ceremony moment, rather than evidence about Dion’s current health.

Why the appearance drew attention
Dion had disclosed in 2022 that she had stiff-person syndrome (SPS), and CBS News described her public appearances since then as very few. CBS also noted that she attended an NHL game with her sons in November. That sighting supports describing the Grammys appearance as rare or surprising, but the available reporting does not establish an exact three-month gap.
Healthline describes SPS as a rare, progressive neurological disorder affecting the brain and spinal cord; symptoms can include muscle stiffness and spasms. That general medical description cannot determine Dion’s symptoms at the ceremony or show that she had recovered. An awards-stage appearance alone is not evidence of a change in her condition. Healthline’s SPS overview provides further background.
