Cukierku, ty łobuzie! is a humorous children’s story about Cukierek, a mischievous striped housecat whose antics disrupt family life. Written by Waldemar Cichoń and illustrated by Dariusz Wanat, it is the first book in the Cukierek series. Cichoń says it was added in 2017 to Poland’s Ministry of National Education reading list for primary grades I–III.

What is Cukierku, ty łobuzie! about?

In the author’s synopsis, Cukierek is a striped housecat with a spot on his nose. He eats, sleeps and plays, but his mischief also causes trouble for the family. The comic episodes described by Cichoń include a visit to the vet, hockey games, homework and a Christmas tree. The premise is a family comedy built around the consequences of living with an unruly cat.

The author’s synopsis also asks why cats at a certain age have to become independent. The available description does not establish whether that wording is a chapter title, subtitle or back-cover hook.

Who wrote it, and is it a school reading book?

Waldemar Cichoń wrote the book, with illustrations by Dariusz Wanat. Cichoń identifies it as the opening volume in the Cukierek series and says it joined Poland’s Ministry of National Education reading list in 2017 for grades I–III. That school-list statement is the author’s; the National Library separately catalogues the hardback for children aged 6–8 and grades 1–3.

#1 Best Overall

Cichoń presents the book as humorous and suitable for children beginning to read independently. He also characterizes the series’ language as simple and understandable while still rich, and says it conveys traditional values. These are the author’s descriptions of the series.

What age is the book for?

There is no single age recommendation shared by the records. The National Library’s 2022 hardback entry specifies ages 6–8, while a PZWL bookseller listing recommends ages 5–7. Treat these as guidance attached to particular listings, not a definitive age threshold. For a school assignment, grades I–III are the relevant context given by the author and the National Library’s hardback record.

Which edition should you look for?

The National Library of Poland records two distinct 2022 editions. Check the ISBN as well as the title: the school edition adds an opracowanie (study guide), and the two versions have different pagination.

Edition ISBN Format and contents Pagination and catalogue details
Cukierku, ty łobuzie! 978-83-66243-08-8 Hardback; illustrated 55 numbered pages plus 9 unnumbered pages; 24 cm; catalogued for ages 6–8 and grades 1–3.
Cukierku, ty łobuzie! : lektura szkolna z opracowaniem 978-83-66243-27-9 Paperback school edition with study guide; illustrated 79 numbered pages plus 9 unnumbered pages; 24 cm.

These are bibliographic records, not current shop listings: they do not establish price or stock. When choosing, match the ISBN to the binding and whether you want the school edition with study materials.

Is there an English edition?

Cichoń’s official page says an English-language edition, Sugar, You rascal!, was published by Wydawnictwo Żwakowskie in August 2021. That publication detail does not establish whether the English edition is currently available.
