Crunchyroll announced Mass for the Dead on March 31, 2020, as its newest game at the time. The English version launched on April 21, 2020, as an Overlord-based dark fantasy mobile RPG. The international version was later reported to have ended service in 2021; a Japanese store listing does not establish that the English game is still available.
What is Mass for the Dead?
Mass for the Dead is a dark fantasy mobile role-playing game based on the Overlord anime and light novel franchise. Crunchyroll described it in its March 31, 2020 announcement as “a new dark fantasy mobile RPG based on the popular dark fantasy isekai anime Overlord.” The announcement said the Japanese game was co-produced by Sumitomo and Exys. Crunchyroll’s announcement also identifies Kugane Maruyama as author of the source light novels.

When did it launch?
Crunchyroll opened pre-registration on March 31, 2020, and at the time planned a Western release for spring. Exys later announced that English-language distribution began on April 21, 2020, in more than 100 countries and regions, mainly in North America and Europe. That figure describes the launch footprint, not the number of players or present-day availability. Exys’s April 24, 2020 release reported the distribution details.

Is Mass for the Dead still available?
Anime2You reported in February 2021 that an in-game notice set March 31, 2021, at 08:00 German time as the end of service for the international version, with in-app purchases ending March 1, 2021. The dates come from secondary reporting of that notice; no closure reason is established here. Anime2You’s report is the source for those shutdown dates.
A Japanese Google Play listing for MASS FOR THE DEAD OVERLORD was visible at the time of reporting. It describes an original-story dark fantasy RPG and lists Android and Windows; the listing states it was updated August 30, 2026. The Japanese Google Play listing reflects that listing only. It does not establish that the English version is available, or that the Japanese app can be accessed in every country.
