Contemporary reporting said the affected apps had been removed from app stores by June 30, 2025. Whether you can still install or restore one depends on your region, device, and download history—and the available sources do not verify those cases.
What the “free” claim meant
In June 2025, reports said SEGA made nine classic mobile games free ahead of end-of-service notices. The headline describes that past change, not a current promotion or a guarantee that the apps can still be downloaded. SEGAbits reported the change; its update said the affected apps were removed from app stores by June 30, 2025. That date comes from the outlet’s reporting, not an official SEGA-announced deadline.
The notices reportedly appeared inside the affected games. Coverage said SEGA had not made a formal public announcement at the time, so there is no established official statement to quote about the mobile end of service. Time Extension’s report describes the notices and the lack of a formal announcement.
Could you download Crazy Taxi Classic or Sonic CD Classic?
Historical Apple and Google Play descriptions called Crazy Taxi Classic and Sonic CD Classic part of SEGA Forever, a collection of free classic games for mobile. Those same descriptions said the apps were ad-supported and offered an optional in-app purchase to remove ads. They describe the apps’ historical positioning; they do not confirm that either app is currently available or establish its price after the notices. The Crazy Taxi Classic listing and the Sonic CD Classic listing retain historical collection language.

Store search results or old listing text are not proof that a new user can install an app. Current availability has not been verified by country, operating system, or prior download history. Check your own regional App Store or Google Play listing for an install option; for a past download, check the account’s app or purchase history. These checks may show what your account can access, but no mobile-specific redownload rule is established here.
What if you already had one installed?
The available sources do not confirm whether a previously installed mobile app continues to work, can be restored after deletion, or can be transferred to a new device. Do not assume that SEGA’s separate console and PC library-retention policy applies to mobile apps.

In November 2025, SEGA published a support notice about selected console and PC classics. It says owned games remain in the library and lists Crazy Taxi on Steam and Xbox; it does not settle whether a mobile app can be newly downloaded or restored. SEGA’s support article concerns those other platforms.
