This is the New York Times Connections puzzle for Monday, June 17, 2024—not a June 17 puzzle from another year. Start with the spoiler-light clues below; the four category solutions and all 16 answers appear farther down.
How to play Connections
Connections is a daily word puzzle in which you sort 16 terms into four groups of four. Select a set and submit it; words can have overlapping meanings, so a plausible-looking group may still be wrong. A near miss can produce a “one word away” message, and shuffling the grid may help reveal a different association. The game format is described on the Connections reference page.

Spoiler-light hints
Try these clues in order before opening the solutions. The usual difficulty progression runs from yellow, often the most accessible, through green and blue, to purple, which often relies on wordplay.

Why the groupings can be tricky
FIX, SPOT, and CORNER each have flexible meanings, which can make them tempting candidates for other associations; together, they point to being in a predicament. Purple is the most abstract connection: an angle and temperature have degree measurements, while crime and education can also be discussed in degrees.

In his June 16, 2024 Forbes guide to the June 17 puzzle, Kris Holt reported using BALM and GLOSS as entry points for the lip-makeup group, then finding the delivery group; he said the final purple set took several attempts.
