It is not automatically a Wi-Fi fault or an account problem. Check whether one device or the whole home is affected, then confirm the device is still supported before trying more disruptive fixes.
What Netflix error NW-4-7 means
Netflix’s message may say, “Couldn’t connect to Netflix. Please try again or restart your home network and streaming device.” Its support guidance identifies three broad possibilities: information stored on the device is preventing Netflix from working, the network path to Netflix is failing, or the device is no longer supported. Netflix does not publish a more precise explanation for each part of the code. Netflix’s NW-4-7 guidance covers smart TVs and streaming devices, cable boxes, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox 360 and Series X/S.
Start by locating the problem
Before changing settings, compare the affected device with other devices and services in the home. This helps avoid treating a household internet fault as an app fault—or repeatedly resetting an old TV whose Netflix software is no longer supported.

Also note whether the error appears at launch, during sign-in, or during a network check, and whether the device uses Wi-Fi, Ethernet, a hotspot, or a restricted network. These comparisons are clues, not definitive diagnoses.

Check device support before resetting anything
For a TV, TV-connected streaming device, or cable box, Netflix documents this check:
- On the NW-4-7 screen, select More Details.
- Select Device.
- Look for the SDK or Platform version entry.
Netflix says an SDK version of 4.1.5 or below does not meet its current technical requirements and cannot be updated to a supported version by the manufacturer. A version of 4.1.6 or above should proceed to the usual network and sign-in troubleshooting. If the version is below the threshold, changing DNS, restarting the router, or reinstalling Netflix will not make that software supported. See Netflix’s version guidance.
Netflix also warns that it may no longer be available on some TVs and TV streaming devices made before 2015; that does not mean every device from before that year is unsupported. Check the model and app availability in Netflix’s supported-device information before deciding. A factory reset can erase accounts, settings, and Wi-Fi credentials without restoring compatibility.

Troubleshoot a TV, streaming device, or cable box
Test the account and network path in a browser
Using a phone, tablet, or computer connected to the same network as the affected device, open netflix.com/clearcookies, select Sign In, and sign in. Netflix says that if the browser displays NSEZ-403, it cannot connect the account at that moment; try again later. If no error appears, continue with device troubleshooting. This is an account/session check, not a guaranteed cure for every NW-4-7 case.
Restart the modem, router, and device
- Turn off the affected TV or streaming device.
- Unplug the modem and router from power and wait 30 seconds.
- Reconnect them and wait about 1 minute before turning the TV or streaming device back on. If the connection lights have not stabilized, wait longer.
- Try Netflix again.
These are Netflix’s documented restart timings; a restart may help, but it does not establish the underlying cause. Netflix’s NW-4-7 instructions include device-specific restart guidance.
Sign out and sign back in
On most TV-connected devices, open the Netflix home screen and press the remote’s Back button. If the menu is at the top, move left to the profile icon, then choose Get Help > Sign out > Yes. If the menu is on the left, choose Get Help at the bottom, then Sign out. From the error screen, select More Details, then Sign out or Reset if offered. Sign in again.

If the regular menu is unavailable, Netflix documents this remote sequence: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up. The menu that appears may offer Sign out, Reset, Start Over, or Deactivate, depending on the device. Menu names vary by model and software; Apple TV has a separate sign-out procedure.
Improve or compare the network connection
- Move the router and device closer together; if possible, put them in the same room.
- Place the router in an open location, above the floor, and away from appliances or other wireless devices.
- If practical, compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet or another Wi-Fi band. A temporary hotspot can also be a diagnostic comparison, but it may be slow, metered, restricted, or unsuitable for sustained streaming.
- Install TV or streaming-device software updates offered by its manufacturer, if available.
A device that works on Ethernet but not its usual Wi-Fi connection suggests a wireless signal or configuration issue. A device that fails on multiple networks may instead have an app, software, or support problem; neither test alone proves the cause.

For consoles, Netflix’s documented NW-4-7 instructions use automatic DNS. Do not treat a manually entered public DNS address as Netflix’s official fix. Menu labels can vary with system software.

PlayStation 4
- Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection.
- Choose Wi-Fi or LAN, then choose Custom.
- Set IP Address Settings to Automatic, DHCP Host Name to Don’t Specify, DNS Settings to Automatic, Proxy Server to Don’t Use, and MTU Settings to Automatic.
- Choose Test Connection, then try Netflix.
PlayStation 5
- Go to Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection.
- For Wi-Fi, select the network and choose Advanced Settings. For Ethernet, choose Wired LAN > Advanced Settings.
- Set IP Address Settings to Automatic, DHCP Host Name to Don’t Specify, DNS Settings to Automatic, Proxy Server to Don’t Use, and MTU Settings to Automatic.
- Select OK to test the connection, then try Netflix.
Xbox Series X/S
- Press the Xbox button and go to Profile & system > Settings.
- Select General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings.
- Select Automatic, then try Netflix.
Xbox 360
- Press the controller’s Guide button and go to Settings > System Settings > Network Settings.
- Choose the network, then Configure Network.
- Select Automatic, then try Netflix.
Netflix’s console instructions also recommend restarting the modem and router while the console is off or unplugged, then powering the console back on after the network equipment reconnects.

Netflix recommends the following speeds for the indicated streaming quality. They are recommendations, not guarantees that NW-4-7 will disappear: signal stability, congestion, latency, DNS, or network restrictions can still interfere.

Test at Fast.com; if available, run the test on the TV or TV-connected device as well as another device. Netflix’s speed guidance is at its connection-speed help page. A good result on a phone does not prove that the TV’s Wi-Fi connection is equally good.

On hotel, café, school, or other public Wi-Fi, ask whether video services are blocked. A network can show as connected while still requiring a browser sign-in or acceptance of terms through a captive portal. Private networks can also have router restrictions, outages, filtering, or incorrect settings. Mobile hotspots, cellular, and satellite connections may be too slow for Netflix; a successful connection test does not guarantee adequate streaming.
Know when to contact the ISP or Netflix
Contact the ISP
Contact your internet provider if multiple devices have internet problems, the connection is below Netflix’s recommended speed, service is repeatedly dropping, there may be an area outage, or the device works on another network but not at home. Tell the ISP whether one device or several are affected and whether the affected device uses Wi-Fi or a direct cable connection. Before ending the call, test at Fast.com and try Netflix again, as Netflix recommends.
Contact Netflix
Contact Netflix if several supported devices fail despite working internet, the problem persists across more than one network, a supported device cannot authenticate or connect, or the same-network browser check repeatedly returns NSEZ-403. For PS5, Netflix’s current NW-4-7 page directs users who have completed its listed steps to contact Netflix for help investigating the problem. Support can also help confirm whether a particular model is still supported.
When an external streaming device makes more sense
If the TV’s built-in Netflix app is unsupported or cannot be updated to a supported version, but the display and an HDMI port still work, a supported external streaming device can be a more proportionate remedy than replacing the television. Check that the specific device is supported, the TV has a suitable HDMI input, and the network works reliably. An external player will not fix a home-wide ISP or Wi-Fi fault, and its maximum resolution depends on the TV, device, Netflix plan, and HDMI path.
Netflix lists supported device families that include Fire TV, Apple TV, Chromecast and Google TV devices, Roku, Samsung, LG, Sony, TCL, Vizio, and Hisense, among others. Availability varies by model and can change; verify the exact device against Netflix’s supported-device information. If the TV’s screen or HDMI ports are also failing, replacing the TV may be more appropriate than adding a streamer.
