Yes—Tubi shows ads, and as of August 16, 2026, its U.S. service has no official ad-free plan or reliable, universally supported way to skip commercial breaks. The trade-off for watching without a subscription fee is advertising.
Why does Tubi show ads?
Tubi is a free, ad-supported streaming service: advertising helps fund its movies and shows. Its standard service does not require a subscription or credit-card information; creating an account is optional and offers features such as saving a watch list and continuing across devices. Those account features do not remove or reduce ads. Tubi’s Help Center explains its ad-supported model, and its welcome page describes the free service and account features.
Tubi says viewers see fewer ad minutes than on traditional cable or broadcast TV. That is Tubi’s own comparison, not a universal independent measurement. There is no single dependable ad count or duration for every viewer: breaks can vary by title, region, device, live channel versus on-demand program, and available advertising.
What kinds of ads might you see?
- Commercial breaks: Video ads may interrupt a movie or show; some titles or devices may also have ads before playback.
- Pause-screen ads: Tubi has announced pause-ad formats, but these are advertising placements, not a viewer control or a promise that every pause will show an ad. See Tubi’s announcement about pause advertising.
Ad formats and frequency can differ across titles, platforms, and regions, so another viewer’s experience is not a reliable forecast of yours.

Can you skip Tubi commercials?
There is no universal Tubi “Skip ad” button or officially documented method for skipping commercial breaks. Playback controls may differ between a browser, phone, smart TV, and streaming device; even when fast-forward or rewind is available during a program, it may be disabled or behave differently during an ad. A button combination that appears to work in one session is not a dependable Tubi feature.
Tubi’s Help Center says it does not currently offer an ad-free option, so there is no Tubi-paid upgrade that officially removes the breaks. The policy checked here applies to Tubi’s U.S. service as of August 16, 2026; availability and playback behavior can differ internationally and may change.

Will an ad blocker stop Tubi ads?
Tubi says ad blockers will not work with its service and advises viewers to whitelist Tubi if an ad blocker is causing playback trouble. Blocking ad requests can keep a video from starting, interrupt playback, or leave the player stuck. Browser extensions also do not provide a reliable solution for Tubi apps on TVs and streaming devices. Follow Tubi’s ad-blocker troubleshooting guidance rather than relying on blocking as a skip method.
Can you turn off personalized ads?
You can limit tailored advertising, but opting out does not stop all ads. Tubi’s privacy policy, effective July 1, 2026, lists industry opt-out tools for desktop and mobile browsers, device-level advertising settings or AppChoices for mobile apps, and settings such as “Opt out of ads personalization” or “Interest-based Ads” on some connected TVs. Menu names vary by device. Tubi’s privacy policy explicitly distinguishes ad personalization from whether advertising appears.

What to do if ads freeze or keep repeating
A stalled or repeating ad is more likely a playback, ad-serving, or network issue than a way to skip the break. Try these steps:
- Exit the title and reopen it; if that does not help, restart the Tubi app or refresh the browser.
- Check the device’s internet connection and install any available app or device updates.
- Try another title, then test Tubi on a different supported device or network to narrow down the problem.
- If you use a browser ad blocker, temporarily disable it for Tubi or whitelist the service.
- If the issue continues, contact Tubi support instead of repeatedly trying random seek-button combinations.
Is Tubi legal and safe to use?
Tubi describes itself as a legal free streaming service and says viewers should not encounter the malware, pop-ups, malicious redirects, or VPN requirements associated with unauthorized streaming sites. What to use if you want fewer interruptions—or none
If you are comfortable with ads but want another free catalog, The Roku Channel is another ad-supported option; changing services does not mean commercials disappear. Roku’s free-streaming information and The Roku Channel page describe its free viewing options.
For uninterrupted viewing, look for a paid on-demand service or ad-free plan, rent or buy the particular title from a legitimate digital storefront, or check whether your library offers it through a service such as Kanopy or Hoopla. Catalogs, prices, ad policies, and library access vary; none of these options removes ads from Tubi itself.
