When did Cox and McDaid get engaged?

A retrospective Us Weekly timeline dates their romantic reunion to March 2016. In an August 2016 interview quoted in that timeline, Cox described the breakup as “so brutal” and said she had learned from the experience.
What did Cox say about their relationship after the engagement ended?
In 2019, Cox described the relationship as “stronger” after they were no longer engaged, according to Us Weekly. The retrospective coverage reviewed does not report that they became engaged again after reconciling.

How did long distance affect them?
