The title is also rendered as Counter Attack: Falling in Love with a Rival; readers should distinguish online translation listings from a publisher-issued book.
What is Counter Attack about?
Counter Attack is a Chinese web novel by Chai Jidan (柴鸡蛋), also listed under the English rendering Counter Attack: Falling in Love with a Rival and the Chinese title 逆袭之爱上情敌. Its premise follows a poor, unmotivated man whose girlfriend leaves him for another man. He sets out to win over her new boyfriend, with the story framing that pursuit as a transformation in his fortunes and appearance. WuxiaWorldEU’s listing categorizes it as comedy, mature romance and yaoi, and uses tags including enemies-to-lovers, revenge, possessive characters and BDSM. These are the hosting site’s labels, not a publisher’s official genre description.
What should readers expect from the content?
This is adult romance, not a general-audience love story. A 2015 translator post carries an “M18” warning and cautions that the text may include explicit scenes involving a same-sex couple. Readers who avoid explicit sexual content should take that warning into account. The translator’s post is an early notice about the translated text, not a current publisher rating.
Where can you read the English version?
There is evidence of English-language translation circulation, but not enough to verify an authorized English edition or recommend a particular source as a legitimate purchase.
#1 Best Overall
- Online chapter listing: WuxiaWorldEU hosts a completed listing and displays 262 chapters. That number is the site’s page metadata, accessed in 2026; it is not an independently audited publication count. View the listing.
- Translation material: In a post dated November 29, 2015, a translator said they had joined the translation team and directed readers to a Facebook page for complete translations. That documents translation activity at the time, but does not establish present-day access or licensing. Read the translator’s notice.
- Book-catalog records: The StoryGraph record is user-added, names no publisher, supplies no ISBN or UID, and gives no edition publication date. Its existence does not verify a standard retail edition. See the catalog record.
A June 2025 Reddit discussion shows readers asking for a good English translation, but a reader’s request—or an account of a broken link—cannot establish whether a version is complete, authorized or currently accessible. View the discussion.
How to check whether an English edition is legitimate
Before treating a listing as a book edition or buying from a retailer, check the edition details rather than relying on a matching title alone:
- Look for a named publisher and an ISBN or other formal edition identifier.
- Check whether the listing states a publication date, format and territory.
- Confirm that the seller or publisher identifies the edition as authorized.
- For chapter sites or translation pages, distinguish access to translated text from proof of publication rights.
The catalog information available for this title does not meet those checks: the cited StoryGraph record is user-added and lacks a publisher, ISBN or publication date. A currently purchasable, licensed English edition therefore remains unverified.

A secondary author biography reports that the novel was adapted into the 2025 drama Revenged Love. That provides related context for readers arriving from the show, but the evidence here does not confirm the drama’s streaming service, territorial availability, subtitles or licensing.
