Country singer Sundance Head, whose given name is Jason Head, was accidentally shot in the abdomen while hunting alone at his East Texas ranch on November 15, 2024, according to accounts from his agent and wife. He was airlifted to a Tyler hospital and released later that night after doctors determined he did not need surgery.
What happened to Sundance Head?
Head was hunting alone at his East Texas ranch on Friday, November 15, 2024. His agent told the Associated Press that a .22-caliber pistol slipped from its holster as Head reached into his Jeep, struck the vehicle, and discharged into his abdomen. His wife, Misty Head, also described the reported discharge in a statement posted to his Facebook page and relayed by CBS News on November 16: “When he grabbed it the .22 came out of its holster and hit the exterior of the Jeep just right and went off.” This is the family’s account; the coverage does not establish an independently reviewed law-enforcement or medical record. How serious were his injuries?
Head was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Tyler. Updates from his representatives and wife said the bullet missed vital organs and lodged in the abdominal wall or fatty tissue. What was the latest recovery update?
The Associated Press reported on November 17, 2024, that Head was recovering at home. A Houston Chronicle follow-up published November 18 described him speaking to fans from home and thanking first responders. The Chronicle quoted him saying, “It was one of the craziest things that has every happened to me.” That wording reflects the published transcription. Who is Sundance Head?
Sundance Head is the stage name of Jason Head, a country singer who won season 11 of The Voice in 2016. News reports about the shooting identify him as the injured singer; they do not specify the pistol’s brand or model.
