Chip and Joanna Gaines marked ten years since Fixer Upper premiered on HGTV with Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse, a six-episode renovation project set in Waco, Texas. Rather than announcing a permanent revival of the original series, the project follows the couple as they reshape a severely outdated 1960s lakehouse, preserving its mid-century character while adapting the home for contemporary life.
What is Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse about?
The series centers on a lakehouse with cliffside views and distinctive outdoor spaces. Disney+ describes the job as overhauling a “severely outdated 1960s lakehouse”; Magnolia presents it as the restoration of a distinctive property with a modern point of view. The first episode, “Reviving a Lakehouse Lost in the 1960s,” introduces the challenge: rethink the floorplan and bring two design styles together.
The anniversary gives the project its “return” angle. HGTV dates the original Fixer Upper premiere to 2014, making the lakehouse series a tenth-anniversary project announced in 2024—not evidence that the original run has permanently resumed.
How many episodes are in the series?
HGTV announced six episodes, released across three weeks in double-episode premieres. Magnolia’s published schedule specified Sunday broadcasts at 8/7c on Magnolia Network, with same-day streaming on Max and discovery+ at the time. Later official pages described the completed series as streaming on those services. Those are historical schedule and catalog details, not a guarantee of present-day availability: check local listings for current access, since catalogs and rights vary by date and territory. Disney+ also has a series listing.

How does the renovation balance old and new?
The design responds to the home’s mid-century origins without treating preservation as a requirement to leave the layout untouched. Episode descriptions point to floorplan changes, custom millwork, a courtyard water feature, and the blending of design styles. Magnolia’s room guides show how that approach translates into specific choices: retain or refinish selected original features, reshape openings and rooms where needed, and introduce contemporary materials and built-ins.
Restoring character
In the library, the team refinished and sealed original wood floors, then added custom cherry sliding doors with reeded glass, built-in shelving and storage, and fold-down desks. The living room keeps its original fireplace, framed by textured plaster, while rebuilt shelving and a reshaped opening alter the feel of the room. Windows were lengthened to change the room’s relationship with the view.

Custom details and reworked rooms
A floating cherry staircase pairs green carpet treads with brass rods. Elsewhere, custom cherry wood appears in millwork and paneling. A former kitchen became a recreation room with cherry paneling, skylights, a retro fireplace, built-in seating, and a game table. The laundry room uses black-and-white pressed volcanic-ash floor tile alongside a yellow square-tile mosaic.
Building systems
Magnolia’s guides say new HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems were installed throughout the home. That practical work sits alongside the visible finishes: the project is not only a cosmetic refresh, but also a reworking of the house’s infrastructure.

What products did Magnolia use in the lakehouse?
Magnolia’s room-by-room sourcebooks identify products, finishes, and vendors. Among the paint entries in Part 1 are Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines Crafted with KILZ colors Wooded Acres and Blanched, specified in distinct finishes. A pantry listing names a “4pc Ceramic Canister Set, Brown, Amazon.” That is an Amazon-sourced sourcebook entry; it does not establish that the item remains in stock or prove that every similar-looking canister is the one shown on screen.
Magnolia’s sourcebooks explicitly warn that it cannot guarantee availability of listed items or services. Treat them as records of named sources, not as live inventory or proof that a product can still be purchased.

HGTV and Magnolia’s 2024 announcements described the series airing on Magnolia Network and HGTV, with streaming on Max and discovery+. Because the information is dated and platform libraries vary by country, use each service’s current local listing to confirm whether the episodes are available where you are. Disney+ also lists the series; its catalog may likewise vary by territory.
