The account came from Anna Lee, Coldplay’s official tour photographer, in an interview with 92.9 Triple M, as reported by PerthNow.
What was the pre-show treat?
It was a short backstage meet-and-greet—not a publicly advertised ticket benefit. Lee said members of the band’s team brought selected groups of local fans in to meet the band and say hello shortly before the performance.
“An opportunity for groups of local fans who’ve been selected and pulled in by some of our team to meet the band and say hello to them right before they go on stage,” Lee said, in the interview quoted by PerthNow.
What did Chris Martin do?
Lee said Martin typically led the interaction. She described the band greeting the fans, taking a moment to look them in the eye and chat, and expressing gratitude. The encounter was brief: Lee said it happened “literally moments before they go on stage.” She also took a group photo.

Lee’s description was: “But the fans are just beside themselves in that moment and the band will just pass through and express genuine gratitude, and take a moment to look them in the eye and chat with them for a minute, literally moments before they go on stage.”
Which Perth concerts was the story about?
PerthNow published Lee’s account on 17 November 2023, ahead of Coldplay’s two Perth shows that weekend. The concerts were scheduled for 18 and 19 November at Optus Stadium, according to Secret Perth.

Who could meet the band?
The report says members of the band’s team selected and brought in groups of local fans. It does not explain how they were chosen, establish that the opportunity was available at both Perth concerts, or say it continued on later tours. Nothing in the account indicates that fans could buy access to the meeting.
