Colt Ford suffered a heart attack after performing at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Gilbert, Arizona, on April 4, 2024. He was taken to hospital and reported in critical but stable condition in the ICU at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa. Those ICU reports were from April 2024—not a statement about his condition today.

What happened after Colt Ford’s Arizona performance?

Ford and his band played at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Gilbert on April 4, 2024. In a later interview with CBS News, Ford said he did not remember performing or returning to the tour bus. A bandmate found him collapsed there; members of the group called for help and began CPR.

Ford was taken to hospital for emergency treatment. Contemporaneous reports said he was admitted to the ICU at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa, Arizona, in critical but stable condition. On April 8, 2024, MusicRow reported that he remained in intensive care and was steadily improving. His representatives asked for privacy during his recovery.

What did Ford later say about the heart attack and treatment?

In an account published by Mayo Clinic on March 11, 2025, Ford described the severity of the event: “I couldn’t have been anymore on death’s door. I died twice that day,” he said. He told Mayo Clinic he had cardiac arrest twice, was revived with defibrillator shocks, underwent a 10-hour surgery, and spent eight days in a medically induced coma. CBS News also reported that he received ECMO support and multiple stents. These details come from Ford’s later accounts and reporting, rather than contemporaneous ICU updates.

Mayo Clinic interventional cardiologist Kwan Lee, identified in the account as part of Ford’s care, explained that tests may not reveal blockages before a heart attack: “It is possible to have tests which don’t show blockages, but the nature of blockages is that they can behave unpredictably and suddenly occur.”

How was Colt Ford doing in 2025?

Mayo Clinic reported on March 11, 2025, that tests showed Ford was healing well about eight months after the heart attack. He had returned to writing music and was preparing to tour, though he also described anxiety and panic attacks after the health scare.

Ford’s official website announced on February 5, 2025, that “Hell Out Of It,” featuring Michael Ray, would be his first single since the heart attack. The announcement also said he planned to return to the road, including dates with Brantley Gilbert.

Mayo Clinic’s account cited an American Heart Association figure that 21% of heart attacks in the United States occur with minimal or no symptoms. That is general health context, not a statistic about Ford. CBS News quoted cardiologist Dr. Sawella Guseh, who was not involved in Ford’s care, saying heart attack symptoms can extend beyond chest pain: “it’s not just chest pain, it’s anything that can happen with exertion between your ears and your belly button.” Anyone experiencing concerning symptoms should seek urgent medical care.

What do the 2026 updates mean?

Reports in 2026 concern a separate incident, not a recurrence of Ford’s heart attack. iHeart reported on August 14, 2026, that Ford had undergone shoulder surgery after a tour bus crash and that some performances were postponed or canceled. A September 14, 2026, iHeart update said he planned further surgery and had canceled his remaining tour dates for that year.

Those updates address the crash and shoulder injury. They do not establish Ford’s precise present heart-health status. The latest located report is dated September 14, 2026, and does not provide a current medical assessment of his recovery from the 2024 heart attack.
