How they got back together after filming
After she got her phone back, Susie contacted Clayton to talk again. She said she was not initially trying to restart their relationship: “I didn’t reach out with the intentions of restarting a relationship or knowing where our conversation would go.” Their first conversation lasted about five hours, and she said subsequent conversations were much the same. When ABC reported their reconciliation in March 2022, Clayton and Susie had not gotten engaged. Clayton said he planned to move in with Susie in Virginia within days; later reporting said they moved in together in Virginia Beach. Why Clayton and Susie broke up in 2022
In September 2022, they decided to separate. In a joint interview recap published in October, Clayton described feeling overwhelmed by backlash after the show and questioning his identity and stability. “With the backlash from the show, it became very overwhelming, very quickly.” Susie discussed the personal toll and the limits of how much stability she could provide. They also pointed to communication difficulties, uncertainty about their goals and careers, and the possibility of moving to different cities. In December 2022, Clayton said he and Susie checked in from time to time and remained friends.
