Fiona Dourif said a proposed Chucky Season 4 would put the killer doll in a “new role,” but she and Brad Dourif did not reveal what that role or the season’s plot would be. It was a pitch, not an approved season: Syfy cancelled the series after three seasons on September 27, 2024.
What Fiona and Brad Dourif said about the pitch
In an interview published by The Direct on April 29, 2024, Fiona Dourif said, “There’s a pitch for season four that we’re hoping that we get to do.” She added that the idea would see Chucky “in a new role” and called it a favorite idea that she thought would be a blast. Her comments conveyed enthusiasm, but did not explain the role or disclose a storyline.

Brad Dourif did not provide a plot synopsis. He said he leaves decisions about his character to creator Don Mancini. Fiona also joked that she wanted Nica to have limbs and to capture and torture Jennifer Tilly’s Tiffany; that was her character wish, not confirmation of a planned Season 4 plot.
What “a new role” does—and does not—tell us
The phrase is the only specific hint Fiona gave about Chucky’s proposed place in the story. The interview does not establish whether it meant a change in his status, behavior, or relationship to other characters. Suggestions that Chucky might become a protagonist or face a greater evil were speculation in The Direct’s coverage, not details Fiona attributed to the pitch.

That distinction matters: the actors were reacting to an idea under consideration, not describing a season that had been commissioned. No complete Season 4 synopsis was published in the interview.
What Don Mancini said about Season 4’s status
In an April 14, 2024 interview with The Direct, Mancini said he had pitched a fourth season to SYFY and USA Network, but did not know whether the show would continue. “We don’t know the status of the show yet. So again, fingers crossed that we will get picked up, right?” he said at the time, describing the idea as a “left turn.”
Rank #2
A May 2, 2024 USA Insider article, first published on SYFY, reported that Mancini had several ideas and described the potential season as “quite different.” The article also said there was no word then on whether the series would return. Neither account supplied a full synopsis or confirmed that the networks had approved production.

Syfy cancelled Chucky after three seasons on September 27, 2024. In a statement reported by TVLine that day, Mancini said he was heartbroken the series would not return for a fourth season and grateful for its three years. He also wrote, “Chucky will return! He ALWAYS comes back.” That closing line expressed confidence in the character’s future; it did not announce a Season 4, identify another project, or give a release date.

The clearest answer is therefore chronological: in spring 2024, the cast and creator discussed a proposed, unconfirmed season; in September, Syfy cancelled the series after three seasons. The “new role” remained an intriguing but unexplained tease, not a plot update for a season that went into production.
