Clint Eastwood and Garrapata, LLC received a $6,094,565.33 default judgment against Mediatonas UAB in 2021—not a jury verdict. Their lawsuit alleged that fabricated online material used Eastwood’s photographs and invented interview claims to make CBD products appear endorsed by him. The court also ordered Mediatonas and associated people to stop using his identity to promote CBD products and to stop falsely claiming he was in the CBD business.
What happened in the CBD advertising lawsuit?
Eastwood and Garrapata filed case 2:20-cv-06503 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California on July 22, 2020. The complaint alleged that an online article presented as news used Eastwood’s photographs and invented quotes and interview claims to promote CBD products. It said Eastwood had no connection to those products and had never given the purported interview. Those are allegations made in the complaint; the court record separately establishes the orders and judgment entered in the case.
The original docket listed several defendants, including Greendios, For Our Vets, Sera Labs, Mediatonas UAB, and Doe defendants. The $6,094,565.33 default judgment discussed here was against Mediatonas UAB, not every company named in the complaint. The case docket records the proceedings.
How much was the judgment, and was it a jury verdict?
The court granted a renewed motion for default judgment on October 1, 2021, awarding $6,094,565.33 and injunctive relief. The docket records entry of judgment against Mediatonas UAB on October 12, 2021, for that amount plus post-judgment interest. “$6.1 million” is the rounded headline version of the exact award.

This was a default judgment, not a jury verdict or damages award following a contested trial. The distinction matters: the court entered judgment after the defendant’s default rather than after a jury evaluated the case at trial.
What did the court order Mediatonas to stop doing?
In an order dated February 26, 2021, the court restrained Mediatonas and its officers, agents, employees, representatives, and people acting with or participating with it from using Eastwood’s name, likeness, or persona to promote and sell CBD products. It also barred disseminating false and defamatory statements that Eastwood was in the business of manufacturing, distributing, or selling CBD products. The docket’s reproduced order states the injunction.

Did Clint Eastwood endorse CBD products?
The complaint said Eastwood had no connection to CBD products and had not given the interview represented in the online material. The lawsuit challenged the appearance of an endorsement; it should not be read as evidence that he endorsed CBD. The court’s injunction specifically prohibited using his identity to promote or sell CBD products.

A different proceeding, case 2:21-cv-00356, resulted in a May 2022 judgment concerning alleged hidden metatags that could direct searches for “Clint Eastwood CBD” to online-cbd-shop.com and a marketplace. It is distinct from the Mediatonas case and was not the source of the $6,094,565.33 award. The 2022 case docket concerns that separate matter.
