Atavista arrived May 13, 2024; Bando Stone followed July 19.
What were the two Childish Gambino albums?
The announcement covered two releases with different relationships to Glover’s earlier work. Atavista revisited 3.15.20; Bando Stone & The New World was the subsequent album. Sony Music Canada described Bando Stone as the final album under the Childish Gambino imprint, a qualification that does not mean Glover said he would never make music again.
| Project | Relationship to prior material | Release date | Role in the announcement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atavista | Completed and reimagined version of 3.15.20 | May 13, 2024 | First project announced |
| Bando Stone & The New World | Subsequent album; no earlier album relationship stated | July 19, 2024 | Final album under the Childish Gambino imprint, according to Sony |
Is Atavista a new album or a re-release?
It is best understood as a completed, reworked version of 3.15.20, not as an entirely separate collection of new compositions. The Associated Press reported that the May 13 release included two new tracks, “Atavista” and “Human Sacrifice,” as well as new guest spots from Young Nudy and Summer Walker. Sony Music Canada described it as “3.15.20 reimagined versions.” It listed 11 tracks.
Glover called Atavista “the finished version” of 3.15.20, according to the Associated Press. In an April 2024 livestream, he also explained that 3.15.20 had originally been intended to be titled Atavista, and said it had not been mastered or mixed before he released it; The Independent reported those remarks.

What does “final Childish Gambino album” mean?
Sony’s July 2024 announcement used the phrase “final album under the Childish Gambino imprint.” That describes the album’s place in Glover’s Childish Gambino project; it is not evidence that he would stop making music under any name. The release notice confirmed that Bando Stone & The New World arrived July 19, 2024.
