Chauncy Glover was an Emmy-winning journalist and KCAL News anchor whose work reached beyond the newsroom. He also founded a mentorship project for young men, helping connect them with education and opportunity. Who was Chauncy Glover?
Glover was born and raised in Athens, Alabama. His interest in broadcasting began in childhood: his father built him a small anchor desk. He later studied broadcast journalism, music and theatre at Troy University, according to CBS Los Angeles’ 2023 profile.
He joined KCAL News in October 2023 after eight years at Houston station KTRK. There, he became the station’s first Black male main evening anchor. In Los Angeles, he anchored newscasts with Pat Harvey and Suzie Suh, CBS reported in November 2024. The report on his death described him as 39.
Glover’s work also took him to markets including Detroit, Jacksonville and Columbus. In 2017, while covering Hurricane Harvey, he helped a woman in labor escape floodwaters and deliver her baby, according to the Los Angeles Times obituary. The newspaper also reported that he performed on stage and sang at Rosa Parks’s funeral.

He founded a mentorship project for young men
Glover founded the Chauncy Glover Project after reporting in Detroit on the death of a young person. The project’s purpose was to mentor young men and help them pursue education and their ambitions. His family’s account describes it as a lasting part of his service to the community.

The National Association of Black Journalists said Glover received its Angelo B. Henderson Community Service Award in 2016 for work beyond journalism. It also recognized him with a Salute to Excellence Award. In its November 6, 2024 memorial, the organization highlighted the community dimension of his career.

How is Chauncy Glover being remembered?
In a family press release, his parents, Sherry and Robert Glover, wrote: “He was more than a son and brother—he was a beacon of light in our lives and a true hero to his community.” His publicist and friend, Jordyn Dean, said in the same release: “Chauncy was more than just an extraordinary journalist and community leader; he was like family.”

What is known about his death?
Glover died in November 2024. On February 19, 2025, CBS Los Angeles reported that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death accidental, resulting from acute intoxication by the combined effects of methamphetamine and chloroethane. His family had described his passing as unexpected and asked for privacy. The finding is reported here as the official determination cited by CBS, without speculation beyond it.
