In January 2024, the Los Angeles Times reported that Georgia would pay the family $1 million, attributing the arrangement to their attorney, Alex Little. E! News also reported the settlement, citing a family representative and court documents.
The available reporting supports describing it as a settlement agreement or reported payment resolving the civil case. It does not establish the agreement’s detailed terms, such as whether it included an admission of wrongdoing, confidentiality provisions, or a particular allocation of the money.
Was this connected to the federal criminal case?
No. The Georgia lawsuit was a civil dispute concerning alleged conduct in a state tax investigation. The separate federal prosecution concerned bank fraud and tax offenses. The two matters had different defendants, legal processes and outcomes; the Georgia settlement did not erase or reverse the federal jury’s verdict.

In its June 2022 account of the verdict, the U.S. Department of Justice said the jury found that the couple conspired to defraud community banks of more than $30 million in loans and convicted them of tax crimes; it said Julie was also convicted of obstruction. The department’s November 2022 sentencing announcement listed prison terms of 12 years for Todd and seven years for Julie. Those sentences were later followed by a separate development: the Associated Press reported that President Donald Trump pardoned both on May 28, 2025, and they were released that day. The pardons were not a term or consequence of the Georgia settlement.
Did Todd and Julie Chrisley get to keep the settlement money?
The available reporting does not establish how much, if any, of the $1 million the couple ultimately retained. A copy of a federal garnishment filing hosted by Scribd refers to remaining settlement proceeds in connection with the Chrisleys’ federal judgment. It reports a judgment balance of $17,208,491.82 as of January 11, 2024. That document shows that garnishment was at issue; it does not, on its own, prove that all or any specific amount of the settlement was seized or establish the proceeding’s final result. The filing copy is hosted on Scribd, and its final disposition is not established by the available material.

How does the 2026 lawsuit against their former lawyer fit in?
It is a separate case, not a continuation of the Georgia settlement lawsuit. On June 8, 2026, AP reported that Todd and Julie Chrisley sued former defense attorney Chris Anulewicz and his law firm, Balch & Bingham, alleging malpractice and seeking compensatory damages in excess of $25 million. Those allegations are claims in a newly filed lawsuit, not findings by a court. AP reported that the defendants had not yet been served at the time and that counsel said the suit would be vigorously defended. The AP report describes that separate dispute.
