Glen Powell stars as Russ Holliday, who disguises himself as Chad Powers and walks onto a struggling team. The premise grew from an Eli Manning undercover segment, but the series tells a fictional story.
What is Chad Powers about?
Hulu describes Russ Holliday as a quarterback whose promising career was derailed by a serious mistake. Eight years later, he attempts a comeback by disguising himself as the eccentric Chad Powers and joining the South Georgia Catfish. The series follows the effort to keep that identity intact as the team pursues a place in the college football playoff.

Hulu classifies the 2025 series as a TV-MA comedy and calls it a half-hour show. Its official synopsis emphasizes that Chad’s unusual behavior draws suspicion from Coach Hudson and Gerry, while Ricky knows who he really is. The disguise is the setup for a scripted comedy, not a documentary account of an actual college football season.
Is Chad Powers based on Eli Manning?
Yes. Disney says the show is based on a segment from ESPN and Omaha Productions’ Eli’s Places, in which Eli Manning went undercover at a college football tryout as an oddball quarterback named Chad Powers. The series carries over the disguise and walk-on idea, then builds a fictional comeback story around Russ Holliday.

Disney announced the first-season premiere for September 30, 2025, with two episodes at launch and weekly Tuesday releases afterward. Its UK announcement set the second-season premiere for September 3, 2026, with all six episodes available on Disney+ internationally and Hulu in the U.S. Those are announced release details; current access should be confirmed in the local catalog. Disney+ also reported in December 2025 that the first season was available on Hulu and through Hulu within Disney+ for eligible bundle subscribers, a dated statement rather than a guarantee of present bundle terms.
