Charlie Kirk’s Death Turned ‘South Park’ Into a Target, but Is It Really to Blame?

The available evidence does not establish that South Park’s Charlie Kirk parody caused or motivated his killing. The episode’s content, Kirk’s reaction, rerun removal and charging allegation are separate facts.

The available evidence does not establish that South Park caused or motivated Charlie Kirk’s killing. The episode at the center of the controversy mocked Kirk, who praised the parody before his death. Afterward, Comedy Central removed it from its scheduled reruns, but contemporaneous reporting said it remained available on Paramount+. Utah County prosecutors later alleged that the accused selected Kirk because of his political expression; the cited charging allegation does not mention South Park and is not a court finding.

Which South Park episode became controversial?

The episode was “Got A Nut,” Season 27, Episode 2, released August 6, 2025. Paramount+’s official Season 27 listing identifies it as the second episode. The season listing gives a broad plot description about Mr. Mackey losing his job; reporting on the episode also described a subplot that caricatured Kirk through Cartman.

On August 7, Kirk responded to the episode on TikTok. ABC News reported that he called it “hilarious” and said he had been told that hearing his name on the show would be a “big win.” That was his public reaction before his death, not evidence about the later accused person’s motive.

What happened after Kirk was killed?

Kirk was fatally shot at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10, 2025, according to ABC News and Euronews. The timeline of the episode’s distribution and the public response matters because the programming decision came after the killing:

  • September 11: ABC News reported that Comedy Central removed “Got A Nut” from its scheduled linear rerun rotation. The same report said it remained available on demand and on Paramount+.
  • September 12: Euronews reported social-media accusations against the show, while noting that there was no evidence to suggest the shooting was motivated by the episode.
  • September 16: Utah County filed formal charges. The charging information included an allegation about the accused’s belief or perception of Kirk’s political expression.
  • September 17–19: Andrew Kolvet, executive producer of The Charlie Kirk Show, said Kirk liked being featured and would want the episode restored. The Los Angeles Times reported that it remained on Paramount+.

Removing an episode from scheduled television reruns is not the same as removing it from every service. Nor, by itself, does a network’s scheduling choice prove that the show contributed to a crime or that the network accepted responsibility.

What does the case record say about motive?

The Utah County charging information alleges that the accused intentionally selected Kirk because of the accused’s belief or perception regarding Kirk’s political expression. This is a prosecutorial allegation, not an adjudicated finding. The cited allegation does not connect the alleged motive to “Got A Nut” or to South Park.

The Utah County Attorney’s case-updates page displayed “No updates available” when accessed on October 8, 2026. That page does not establish the case’s final disposition or whether a court has made a finding about motive; the latest docket and any such determination remain unresolved here.

What can—and can’t—be concluded?

Three distinct things are often blurred together in online arguments:

South Park: The Complete Twenty-Sixth Season [DVD]
  • Genre: TV Comedy

  • Playback Duration: 134
  • Rating: NR
  • The episode: It parodied Kirk. That fact does not establish that it influenced the accused.
  • Kirk’s reaction: He publicly praised the episode before he was killed. That response does not determine the accused’s motive either.
  • The rerun decision: Comedy Central’s post-killing removal from its linear rotation was a programming action, separate from reported streaming availability. It is not proof of causation or an admission of responsibility.

Euronews reported no evidence that the shooting was motivated by the episode. The later charging allegation describes a claimed political-expression-related motive but does not mention the show. On this record, the responsible answer is that a causal link has not been established—not that a final court ruling has ruled one out.

A viral subtitle was fabricated

A viral image claimed Cartman said, “What will you do? Shoot me?” Lead Stories reviewed the scene and found that the line was not spoken in the episode. It should not be treated as dialogue or evidence of a connection to the killing.
