That makes him Richter’s enemy, but not a simple villain: creator Clive Bradley describes him as a guarded political actor who wants to protect his people and opposes Erzsebet Báthory’s plan to colonize America.
Who is Olrox in Castlevania: Nocturne?
Olrox is an ancient vampire whose history with the Belmont family begins before the main story. In the series’ 1783 opening, he confronts Richter as a child. Netflix’s preview describes him as 250 years old at that point (Netflix Tudum, September 27, 2023).

The series later takes place in France in 1792, during the French Revolution. Olrox is voiced by Zahn McClarnon. He is not merely a monster for Richter to hunt: his choices are shaped by his political caution and concern for his people.
Why did Olrox kill Richter’s mother?
Olrox killed Julia Belmont, Richter’s mother, when Richter was a child. Netflix identifies that murder as the reason Richter seeks revenge (Netflix Tudum, 2025). The story establishes the act and its consequence for Richter; it does not make Olrox’s other political motives an excuse for it.

Is Olrox a vampire, and how old is he?
Yes. Netflix calls Olrox a 250-year-old vampire in its preview of the opening encounter. The figure is the age given for the character in that 2023 material, not a separate historical age or a claim about a real person.
Why is Olrox opposed to Erzsebet Báthory?
Bradley says Olrox opposes Báthory because she intends to colonize America and he has seen colonization happen before. He wants to protect his own people, but he conceals his opposition and hedges his bets. Bradley summarized the tension this way: “He’s Mexica; he wants to protect his own. But he is also hedging his bets!” (BeyondGames.biz, 2023).
That motive makes Olrox more politically complicated than a straightforward antagonist, but it does not make him Richter’s ally or absolve him of killing Julia. His secrecy and self-interest are part of the character, not a contradiction the viewer needs to resolve by choosing one side.
What does the series mean by Olrox’s Mexica background?
Bradley describes the Netflix character as Mexica and says the background is “not really Aztec.” He also says the name worked for a Mexica background. This is the creator’s framing of a fictional character; it does not establish Olrox as a specific historical person or deity.

Is the Netflix Olrox the same as the game character?
Olrox appears in the games, but the Netflix version is an adaptation rather than a direct carryover. Bradley put it plainly: “Olrox is in the game, but he’s different.” Netflix describes Nocturne as a standalone expansion loosely based on the 1993 game Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (Netflix Tudum, 2025; Netflix Media Center).
The available descriptions support that high-level distinction, not a scene-by-scene comparison. Viewers should treat the game and show as different versions of the character rather than assume the series reproduces the game’s characterization.

What happens to Olrox after Season 1?
Olrox survives the Season 1 finale, according to Netflix’s ending explainer (Netflix Tudum, 2023). Netflix’s Season 2 guide presents him as facing whether to cooperate with his sworn enemy against the larger vampire threat (Netflix Tudum, 2025). His survival leaves his conflict with Richter and his political choices unresolved.
