MrBeast’s representative said he had not paid for or authorized the display, and operator OUTFRONT Media said the copy was unapproved and removed that evening. Who changed the signs and how they gained access remain unconfirmed in the reporting reviewed.
What appeared on the Northbrook billboards?
On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, two electronic billboards near the Edens Spur/Illinois Tollway in Northbrook showed anti-Israel slogans over a Palestinian flag, alongside MrBeast’s image and the words “Paid for by MrBeast LLC.” Contemporary local reports described the display as an apparent hack or unauthorized posting; the signs’ operator and police worked to have it taken down. FOX 32 Chicago and ABC7 Chicago reported on the incident October 17.
The content included a slogan calling for death to Israel. The presence of a flag, an anti-Israel slogan and an untrue endorsement attribution should not be mistaken for evidence that MrBeast supported the message or that investigators had established the person responsible or their motive.
Did MrBeast endorse or pay for the message?
No. His representative denied that he bought or authorized the billboard placement. As quoted by FOX 32 and Gizmodo, the representative said: “MrBeast did not pay for this billboard and after being made aware of its existence, we contacted our attorneys and the authorities about how to have it immediately removed.”

The “Paid for by MrBeast LLC” line was therefore a claim displayed on the signs, not proof of sponsorship. OUTFRONT Media also said the copy had not been approved or condoned by the company or its advertisers. Gizmodo’s October 17 report quoted both statements.
When were the signs taken down?
Local reports put initial awareness at about 5:30 p.m. and said the billboards were offline by about 7 p.m. that evening. Those are approximate reported times, not an independently measured duration. OUTFRONT said the copy had been removed, and Northbrook police said they worked with the company to ensure its removal. The Chicago Sun-Times and ABC7 covered the response.

Who hacked the billboards, and how?
The available contemporaneous coverage does not establish who changed the display, how access to the billboard system was obtained, or the final outcome of the police or company investigation. “Hacked” was the term used in reports and attributed to the incident; it should not be read as confirmation of a particular technical method or a named perpetrator.
OUTFRONT said it was investigating and described the incident as serious. The reported removal and investigation do not, by themselves, establish that authorities identified a suspect or concluded how the unauthorized content reached the screens.

How did Northbrook officials respond?
Public officials condemned the display. Rep. Brad Schneider called it “a disgusting, intimidating display” and said it had no place in the 10th District or anywhere in America. Schneider also pointed to the billboard location’s proximity to a Jewish day school and the timing at the beginning of Sukkot; that context was his account of why the incident was especially alarming.
The Village of Northbrook said: “The Northbrook Village Board unequivocally condemns anti-Semitism and all acts of hate speech.” These are officials’ characterizations of this specific display. Criticism of the policies or actions of the Israeli state is not inherently hostility toward Jewish people; the quoted officials condemned this incident’s content and presentation as hateful and intimidating. Gizmodo reported Schneider’s remarks, while FOX 32 and ABC7 reported the village statement.
