Kennedy Jr.’s campaign workers and praised people she had met across political parties after he suspended his independent presidential campaign and endorsed Donald Trump on August 23, 2024. Her statement did not mention Trump or the endorsement. Kennedy said Hines was uncomfortable with his political decision, but that was his description of her reaction—not a public statement from Hines opposing or supporting the endorsement.
What did Cheryl Hines say?
In a statement posted on August 23, 2024, Hines thanked the people who had worked on Kennedy’s campaign and reflected on meeting Democrats, Republicans, and independents. CNN Newsource quoted her opening words:
“I’d like to extend a sincere, deeply heartfelt thank you to every person who has worked so tirelessly and lovingly on his campaign. They have accomplished feats that were said to be impossible.”
She also wrote: “I deeply respect the decision Bobby made to run on the principle of unity,” and called the experience “an eye-opening, transformative, and endearing journey.” The full statement, as quoted by CNN Newsource via KESQ, praised people from all parties as people who want the best for the country and for one another.

Did Hines comment on Kennedy’s Trump endorsement?
Her public statement did not mention Trump or Kennedy’s endorsement. It focused on the campaign, its workers, and the people she had met. That omission does not establish what Hines privately thought about the endorsement, and her statement should not be described as an endorsement of Trump or as opposition to him.
Was Hines comfortable with Kennedy’s decision?
Kennedy said she was not comfortable with his political decision. In remarks reported by CBS News, he said: “I am so grateful to my amazing wife Cheryl for her unconditional love, as I made a political decision with which she is very uncomfortable.” That is Kennedy’s characterization; it is distinct from Hines’s own public statement.
