Why was it described as a long-running tradition?
PerthNow’s 12 December 2023 report described Carols in the Domain as a tradition of more than four decades and called that edition its 41st year. In 2025, 7NEWS described that year’s event as the 43rd year. Those are each publication’s anniversary descriptions, rather than an independently verified founding date. The 2025 report also said The Salvation Army had taken over naming rights from Woolworths.
Barr described the gathering as “that one night in the year where we sit around with our families and friends and eat, drink, laugh and sing”. Shirvington called it “an Aussie Christmas tradition for decades”. The comments appeared in PerthNow’s 2023 coverage.
What did the 2023 promotion say about attending and singing along?
7NEWS promoted the 2023 event as ticketed and encouraged attendees to sing along. Its promotion mentioned an official songbook in New Idea magazine inside the candle bag. That was a 2023 event insert; it does not establish that the songbook or tickets are currently available.
