The argument played out in posts later reported as deleted. Billboard subsequently reported that the album debuted at No. 1 with 200,000 first-week album-equivalent units—a chart measure, not 200,000 copies sold.
What sparked the September 2025 exchange?
Complex dates the latest round of posts to Monday, September 29, when Minaj appeared to mock the album’s $4.99 promotional price. The price was part of the immediate social-media dispute; the reported chart total came later and is a separate measure of the album’s performance. Complex’s account describes the price-related post.

Out reported the exchange on September 30, saying Minaj had criticized the album’s performance and Cardi had responded. Out quoted Cardi asking, “Why you keep bringing up my album??” The outlet also said a series of Minaj’s posts had since been deleted, so these excerpts reflect contemporaneous reporting rather than a complete, currently available original-post archive. Read Out’s account.
What did each artist say about the album?
The public dispute centered on the album’s price and sales-related claims. As The Independent reproduced Minaj’s post, she wrote: “Still. You. Could. Not. outsell. meeeeee.” The quoted line was part of the social-media exchange, not an independently verified comparison of sales figures. The Independent’s October 1 report recounts the replies and the earlier history between the artists.

Posts and reported excerpts can show what the artists said publicly; they do not, by themselves, establish the truth of personal accusations or settle a sales comparison. The available chart reporting offers a measurable figure for Cardi’s album, but does not provide a pure-sales total for it or a directly comparable figure for Minaj’s album in this exchange.
What does Cardi B’s 200,000-unit debut mean?
Billboard reported that Am I the Drama? debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 200,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Billboard describes the chart as combining traditional album sales, track-equivalent albums and streaming-equivalent albums. The figure therefore represents a blended chart measure, not 200,000 physical albums or 200,000 pure-sales copies. Billboard’s chart report gives the debut total and position.

- Lightweight, Classic fit, Double-needle sleeve and bottom hem
Those data contextualize the argument, but they do not prove either artist’s personal claim about who outsold whom. A chart position identifies rank on a particular chart; album-equivalent units combine multiple forms of consumption; pure album sales count traditional album purchases. The cited coverage establishes the first two for Cardi’s debut, not a pure-sales total.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How this flare-up fits their earlier feud
The 2025 exchange followed a long-running public tension, but it had a distinct immediate trigger: posts about Am I the Drama? and its performance. The Independent recalls a widely reported altercation between the artists at a Harper’s Bazaar fashion event in 2018 and a truce announced the following month. That background helps explain why a dispute over one album drew attention; it should not be confused with evidence about the album’s sales.
